Not sure if you have a hard top but, I leave my screen on year round. In winter - I stuff a folded Queen sized blanket between the screen and the hard top. Adds insulation. Reduces road noise. And is available as an emergency blanket should the need ever arise.

Weird question, but do you have a soft top or a MIC top without sound deadening? I have the MIC top with factory sound deadening, and don't see a need for more insulation up there. But that could just be me.

MIC top. Agree that the noise is not the primary reason for the blanket trick (but there is a reduction)

It's more of an "all of the above" reasoning. The noise, the thermal layer, the emergency blanket, etc. Each reason carries its own small benefit. But combined the mod carries a lot of weight, IMHO
