Special Thanks to Rigid Industries for allowing me to buy the tall mounts for my 40in Light Bar -- The change in wind/top noise was amazing. There is still noise but i can actually drive with Light bar facing forward - no top thumping and much lower over all noise. I also use an AeroLidz cover. First picture is before -- Second After

Yeah thats why Im not sold on roof mounted lightbar. Ill prolly mount it on bumper. I would have to hear it for myself. Love the look, but not with added noise. Looks good for sure.

I had one on my Jeep. Hated the wind noise and you had to adjust the light where it was unusable at night because of the angle to stop the wind noise. Looks cool but frankly overkill and not worth the added wind drag and noise. I will just do the fog driving lights in the mod bumper and do an 18" light bar mounted on the bull bar. Had both on the Jeep and the upper light bar was nice but over kill and wind noise. It was wind over the cooling fins of the light bar which made the noise. Had to put drops of silicone between them which helped.

Amazing how different some vehicles are. I had the tall brackets that are for the soft top, supposedly correct setup for the OEM Ridgid light bar, and it was like a jet engine. You couldn’t drive over 35 without holding your ears. Switched to the shorter and all went away except for sides at the rear flap some. Just tightened everything up and stuck a pillow above the rail to tighten up the canvas. Plus got a pillow to go!

I like the way that looks! I'm going to get a rack mounted one.

How did you order the tall mounts from Rigid Industries? Is there a part number? Or a link?

I installed a Heretic 40” light bar and the noise on my ragtop was insanely loud with the ragtop flapping during highway driving. However, was able to eliminate all the turbulence noise by wedging in a 1” pipe foam insulation tube in the front and securing it with 3M strip caulking (pic #2), then I wedged rubber door insulators on each of the ragtop frame members (pic #1)

It’s wild how much airflow changes just from bracket height and bar design. We’ve seen the same thing time after time. Sometimes it’s not even the brackets, it’s the cooling fins and how the air hits them that creates that jet-engine effect.

For anyone looking at alternatives instead of larger or taller brackets, we do offer an Integrated Roof LED Light Bar for the Bronco that’s designed specifically around the factory hardtop/soft top profile to reduce turbulence and vibration. The mounting and housing are built to sit tighter to the roofline so you’re not getting as much air rolling underneath the bar.

Not saying roof bars are for everyone, bumper and rack setups definitely have their place, but if wind noise has been the deal breaker, it might be worth looking at a system designed around the Bronco’s airflow instead of a universal mount.
