I wondered this as well, where is the oil filter located on the 2.3L turbo four? And please tell me its not a canister type!

Sources tell me you can hook jumper cables up with the hood barely cracked open.

What is so special about metric tools, many/most American cars have used Metric since 1980, that would be 40 years?
The only special thing is that damn 10mm socket that either disappears or runs away with little legs on it. I don't know which since I've never caught the little bastard in the act of disappearing!

So, the Bronco looks amazing and it appears the designers emphasized ease of adding/removing accessories. However, I want to know what really matters....

1. Is the oil filter in easy accessible location for replacement?
2. Do I have to take the whole top end apart to replace the spark plugs?
3. Are the brake pads easy to replace or do I need some stupid special metric tool?
4. How about changing that serpentine belt? Is the tensioner easy to get at?
5. Is the waterpump easy to get at?
6. Can I access the battery terminals to jump start a friend?
1. The 2.7 it is on top of the engine towards the front, super easy, but it is a canister, replace the filter, and o rings, then just make sure you use a torque wrench to re-install.

edit: see next comment by @Rick Astley about ranger/2.3 oil change.

2. both engines seem to have the coils and plugs pretty accessible. The 2.3 may be slightly easier (in the pictures all the coils are right on top, and I suspect the plug is just a deep reach extension. Mustang or ranger guys may have more input on this though.)

for my 2.7, I haven’t had to bother with the plugs yet, they last for nearly 100k, but having seen some videos on it, same process, pull the plastic engine cover, pull the coil out, deep reach wrench and pull the plug.

3. Brake pads are going to be roughly the same as any other modern vehicle....

4. Haven’t gotten to this on my 2.7 yet (haven’t needed to) but I've heard they don’t use a tensioner, and instead you slip it on then rotate the engine (like installing a bike chain). With all the plumbing it definitely won’t be as easy as the 5.8 on my 96 bronco was.

5. Both engines it’s on the front of it, getting a good seal may be a little bit of a pain if you try and work around the plumbing, personally I’d pull all the intake ducting before doing this. That being said, I haven’t heard of water pump issues with either of these engines.

6. All pictures show the battery should be easily accessible.

As somebody who has DIY oil changes multiple times on a 2019 Ranger, I still do NOT understand why there is so much misinformation about the oil change on that vehicle. Jalopnik ran with some total BS story that you had to remove a wheel to get to the filter..... It was so incorrect that Ford threatened them nicely (to restrict future access to vehicles) and they had to redact and re-issue corrected articles.

On Ranger the oil filter is located inboard at the 2 0'clock position of the drivers front wheel. There are three small push clips you can remove with a flat head screwdriver. pull back the rubber splash shield and you have full access to the filter. It is well above the front axle and behind some other engine bits, it's NOT directly accessible and cannot be directly impacted by objects. Your odds of the oil pan being opened are the same as the oil filter.

Ford even took the effort to mount a small Roman aqueduct style channel for the oil to drip from the filter down to your pan without covering the axle and suspension with oil (suggest draining the pan first to make this work best!). Clean-up for the entire job is one (1) blue paper towel, shared between wiping the filter channel, and whatever you dripped on the engine during the fill.

An oil change in Ranger takes 5 minutes with one socket wrench, one small flat head screwdriver and one oil filter wrench (A small strap wrench with the handle on a rivet works best as the claw type won't fit)

You have full access to the oil filter by....... TURNING THE DAMN STEERING WHEEL FULL RIGHT.... Literally if you can drive in a parking lot, you can access the oil filter.

Yes, that is all bold so hopefully somebody can remember the damn information without repeating more incorrect BS about it.

the 2.3 in the ranger requires removing the front driver’s side wheel to get at the oil filter, but it’s a traditional style. I expect similar for the bronco.

STOP REPEATING THIS INCORRECT INFORMATION!!!!!

If you do not personally KNOW something, VERIFY your "opinion" before spouting it. By the time I could even give the correct information in post 21, somebody already spouts the INCORRECT information from some damn article that came out before Rangers were delivered that had to be corrected or redacted.....

YOU ARE INCORRECT ON THIS MATTER. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE WHEEL TO ACCESS RANGER OIL FILTER.

I was hoping those engine bay photos were just messy because of being pre production, it looks pretty messy.

And having to access the oil filter through the wheel well is a pain in the butt. Many cars have the filter easily accessible from the top

You doing okay? Seems like a minor thing to get so worked up over....

(Also, by the time you posted this rant I had edited my post already saying to reference your comment instead on the ranger oil change.... )

Is it easier if you remove the wheel vs just turning it to the side?

Just curious

Isn't that what the two things on the hood are? Not sure which is negative or positive though.
