Interior lights

I just saw another post about ambient lighting and noticed I had never thought about interior lighting. Being consumed with the possibility of getting one of my dream vehicles and the obvious looming distraction of the delays I never stopped to think or look for the interior lighting options or lack there of. I must say I don’t feel like I often need floor lighting, my explorer has a cool but rarely changed “color adjusting” floor lights. Hoping my lux package has floor lighting of some sort, but does anyone know about overhead lighting? My kids love to read and fear there may not be over head lighting in the back. Assuming I will have the typical lights up front on driver and passenger which would likely be sufficient.

anyone know or have ideas?

I have the LUX package, it does come with ambient lighting, there isn't any overhead lighting other than driver and passenger, Since the top is removable and the airbags are on the roll bar it makes it impossible to have overhead lighting.

There is an overhead light on the rear roll bar behind the rear seat, on the 4 door at least. I would say its ok for locating objects or just general lighting, but I am not sure it would be good enough for reading.

I have a four door, so not sure about the 2 door. For kids in the backseat, the lighting might be a problem. Because the rear roll bar is so far back, the cargo lights don't shine much into the backseat. And the front cargo lights are pretty much over the dash so they won't do it either. I guess you could get some kind of reading lights to attach to the seat backs.

The interior lighting situation is terrible IMO, and the floor lights are the easier option. Adding more lights higher up would require running lines through the areas where the airbags are, and there really isn't a place to attach the lights. I'm working on an idea there as well but having issues.

It's DARK inside the Bronco at night though, so invest in flashlights on lanyards or something. The easiest solution is to just run a battery powered tap light that sticks to the middle panel of the MIC, but the sound deadening fuzz is in the way.

so you cant change the color of the floor lights though?

I only found a setting for brightness on the ambient lights.

I need to figure out something like below for the soft top. Maybe an LED strip across the rear cross bar that is triggered when the tailgate opens.

I wasn't impressed by the lighting locations at all.

I'm planning on adding a light (or lights) to the rear glass and/or tailgate that will both (a) light up when opened and (b) also provide some ambient light from the cargo area when down (and domes are on).

I Plan on adding switches so they can be turned off depending on the situation (ie camping and only needing lights on momentarily).

I'm generally disappointed with the interior lighting of the Bronco. The back seat is very dark and the cargo light is on the side panel which I hate since when you load cargo, the cargo blocks the light. I'm thinking about adding some type of tap light to provide more lighting in the rear

Thank everyone for there comments, looks like I will be MacGyvering the problem and see what happens…

seriously, news flash, what is the the actual cost of sourcing solid lcds, running 12 gauge wire, etc…. Seriously Ford, tack on another k and don’t cut corners. I’m buying a BL Sas… likely will take it off roading minimal. And for all those that give a hard time about DD or this or that. Grow up!!! Life is short. By the way of all the B sold my guess is less than 1% of the time they will actually be off-roading. Even the folks that actually are hard core, unless this is a sole vehicle for OR, they are O R maybe 5-10%.

Been thinking myself about interior ceiling lights for my soft top and I have some general ideas but unsure how I should proceed.. at the simplest I can tape strip lights to the crossbar or even better some kind of rigid clear translucent plastic tube that snaps around it where the strip sits inside might look better. Haven’t considered wiring yet but it would have to come from the back and along the roof frame. Maybe switch off the aux switches or for a simple start to test it out into the rear cig lighter port. Possibly even a hand switch near the lights to easily turn them on when needed cause likely I would be rummaging around when needed and not sitting up front.

probably don’t need a full led strip across as it could be too bright.. any thoughts?

I have a couple of these that I have had for years- they are amazing. Very strong magnet, carabiner, pivot base, 3 light settings, and a flasher that easily light up the interior of a vehicle or for working under the dash. USB charging. Milwaukee also makes "under hood" light bars.
