Hello all,

Does anyone know of or have offroad insurance? My insurance recently confirmed I am not covered to damage when offroading, and in case of something tragic would like to be covered (in the instance of heavy damage or rolling). Advice on the topic is appreciated. Thanks!

Who is your carrier?
Did you ask your broker if your carrier can provide a rider for this provision?

So they will cover an offroad vehicle for on road use but not an offroad vehicle off road ? Weird.

State Farm told me if I had damage and wanted to file a claim it would be like any other claim. You just have to expect rate increases that go along with any claim. They covered my vehicles that I took to the tracks also, as long as it wasn't a sanctioned timed event.

Sometimes you just gotta send it.

But realistically I have no idea on this. I have always heard people commit insurance fraud and get towed out to the main road and flip it in a ditch 😭.

They only exclude for organized racing or competition. Your Bronco is covered off road if you’re out riding trails solo or with others. Read your policy exclusions.

Also, many off-road trails are technically roads.

If you’re in a national forest, those are roads.
Our beaches that can be driven on are technically roads, and you need a DL. The vehicle must be licensed.

Yep, broke my Jeep's axle on NF 293 up by Black Canyon City in Arizona. Just told State Farm what happened (went around a turn and missed that there was a recent partial wash out and drove into it).

It's treated as an "at-fault" collison claim and will work against you if you are an insurance frequent flier, but in my case it was super simple. As long as you are not engaging in some sort of competition or track driving, I don't think you'd generally have many issues with a claim.

That being said, most of the stuff out here is going to be either national forest, BLM, or national park service roads that are designated formal routes.

Many insurance carriers have re-worded the racing exclusion to also include any instance of damage whether a sanctioned event or not, or just testing a vehicle on a track that is not a racing event.

Per the language, you’re fine driving on a track.

If you bin it because you think you’re Dick Trickle, that’s on you.

This. Even when standardized forms are used, you never know when an endorsement may make life interesting.
