I’m confused still on how these will get chips, assuming it’s true that they’d never shut the line down, so incoming build weeks will always get the chip priority. Won’t it basically be until 2023 until they have a surplus of chips to give to the ice mountain lot?
I trust they have tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of chips on order. Manufacturers like Ford would typically buy those things in bulk and considering the recent shortages worldwide they are probably ordering double the supply. They also have planners who can forecast how many they need for built cars, cars which will be built near-term, and future releases which goes into their calculation.

In terms of what sequence they will use to actually put the chips in the cars, good question. They may run parallel lines - one line to put chips in cars built, the other is the regular build line with chips available. I doubt they would do any of this work outside unless they want to test a few.

From the video it looks like Ford has all hands on deck working on clearing the backlog. Hopefully the layer of snow and ice on the Bronco's hood protects the paint from scratches. 🙃

Wonder if they found some old chips in the break room on top of the fridge and were like "hey these might work!"

Ford doesn’t install chips into cars. They install modules and components that include the chips.

Yeah that’s why it’s hard to figure out where the issue is. Ford could be 3rd or higher in the supply chain for the given component. If something goes haywire in that chain, it ends up coming to fruition at the final point of assembly.

Has anyone had their Bronco ship in the last few days since the MAP shutdown? I am one of 7 Broncos that my dealer says (drink) are stuck at MAP. 4 are marked "chip hold" and I am one of three that don't have a note and show as "produced" but not built.

My dealer is assuming it is waiting for final QC so I was hoping Ford would be addressing these Broncos while MAP is shut down, but I don't know if final QC needs to take place at MAP or can be completed somewhere else. My EDD is 2/10 which I expect to change early next week.

The type of chips Ford uses will determine if your Bronco is "Built Wild" or "Built Mild".

From my understanding the only people working while the plant is in idle are the maintenance crews. That is what a buddy of mine, who works at a Stellantis plant told me his plant does when they idle. Idk if it rings true with Ford though.

My tracker updated to shipped on Saturday. Palsapp also says "dispatched". My vehicle build and dates are listed in my signature.

Did your PCM modules ever populate on the Motorcraft site?
