Nailed it!! From an investor viewpoint, don't count out gasoline anytime soon. Those in the know are looking out to 2050 before any serious decrease in gas sales will occur. Gas tax increases? Possible in some states but not on a Federal level. Buy your gas guzzler and enjoy!! Maybe 10-20 years from now I would think twice, but no concern today. Note one mans guzzler in another imporvement (Tundra gets under 16mpg even on highway).
If I had a dime for every time ā€œthose in the knowā€ were wrong, I’d be a very rich man. We can argue all day how long it’s going to take for EV’s to take over, but one thing is certain, it’s going to happen. The ICE has had a great run, but its days are numbered.

Damn, are you living under a rock? We saw a handful of fuel cell powered cars in California in lease. Meanwhile, Tesla sold nearly a million EV’s in 2021 alone. Not to mention other Manufacturers ramping up. Solid state batteries may or may not be vaporware at this point but other technologies are being developed by damn near everyone and those we hadn’t heard of. Meanwhile existing chemistry’s are being tweaked and or repackaged for better efficiency. Of course your line of thinking isn’t surprising after you posted that hit piece some months back. The Moron who wrote that article is the personification of the dipshit who claimed to have PTSD after squeezing off a few rounds through an AR15.
Triggered? I never said EV's would not gain widespread adoption, I was commenting on some thinking widespread adoption and infrastructure support are only a couple of years away. My point was, that was the same spin on Fuel Cells in the 90's, which as you pointed out amounted to "a handful of fuel cell powered cars in California in lease", not widespread adoption. I'm open to buying a hybrid or plug-in hybrid in the near term, in the right vehicle, or to a fast charging, long range EV, again, in the right vehicle, when the technology and infrastructure is there.

Not so much triggered as frustrated with the constant spreading of butt cheeks and dumping of crap. So many people assumed that it would never happen and come up with bullshit reasons as to why not. Now it’s apparent and I’m still seeing the same shit ā€œoh look at fuel cells, case closedā€ , like wtf? Personally I don’t have political motivations, I just think EV’s are cool and exciting. When I see spreading of crap, it annoys me.

I don’t think he was trying to crap on EVs.

I also think we really should be delineating between Electric, Plug in Hybrid, and Hybrid.

I would say most manufacturers will push to Hybrid and Plug in long before all Electric becomes mainstream.

Right now it looks like a mad dash for full EV while ignoring the benefits of Hybrids. Personally I feel like the plug in hybrid variety will serve the slow adopters (and quite frankly I feel like they are a waste of time and resources). Who knows, GM could suddenly become the leader….(yeah right)

EV's may be the next big thing, but the infrastructure they are dependent on might bring it all down. Talk about chicken before the egg scenario if I have ever heard one. So slow your roll.

My sasquatch ticking timebomb is getting 18 per mir across the board. Its crazy how close they got that average on the sticker. Just like most of you, this is a weekend toy.

So get that shiny new Subaru, especially if its your daily!

Ford Bronco I think I'm out..... F738A3EB-0405-4980-A861-9B1ED79A8163

I’m loving it though. I don’t track highway / city, so ignore the pie chart.

Side note, my other vehicle is a GTI and while it gets way better gas mileage (28 average over 50k tracked miles), it’s a premium only vehicle. With the gap between premium and regular ever expanding, the price difference between the Bronco and the GTI isn’t too bad. It costs about $0.14 per mile in my GTI lately, versus $0.10 in the Bronco, despite nearly double the mpg.

What makes you think the electricity won't go up like crazy down the line? Since that's where the money will be? Also I still belive hydrogen will be the future. I cant see everything be on electricity, imagine a storm and you are stock for weeks without power. Imagine how much ... and here they want everything go electric.
Crazy talk. There's going to be plenty of electricity to power our electric future with gas generators.

We will need to replace our gas cars with electric cars run on electricity generated from gas? Or:

A. gentle breezes and sunny days.
or
B. Fossil fuel
or
Lots of others

Mostly run on coal plants, natural gas plants, nuclear... and gas generators.

I think Toyota is poised to change the conversation on hybrids within the next two years if there press releases are to be believed.

I am very interested in their hybrid Tundra which early reports say get better gas mileage than a Prius (the straight pipes review), and has more TQ than there old 5.7l.

Time will tell what tech sticks around and what goes away, but at the moment I think the 20’s will be all about hybrid vehicles.

When California has rolling black-outs, limitations to charging EV's and Texas looses much of the powergrid due to the Polar Vortex, that is not speading of crap, it is simply the facts what we have a long way to go to get the power generation capacity required to charge a significantly higher percentage of EV's. Never said it would not happen, just said it will take time. In the meantime, I have to spend $20K to put in a whole home standby generator (they have a 6-8 month backlog) due to the personally experienced limitations of our Texas powergrid. (I had 40 rolling blackouts over four days during the Polar Vortex last February.)

Someone says the Tundra Hybrid is getting over 50mpg? I want what they are smoking.

I was fortunate enough not to lose power when that happened. Our house is connected to an ā€œessential circuitā€ apparently. I’m also a fuel hauler and we sat on our butts for several days as all the gas stations ran dry. Took months to catch up.
I strongly disagree in the idea that the grid can’t handle EV’s, especially since they can be charged off peak hours with ease. The California story is exaggerated a bit. They asked people not to charge during peak hours. Not exactly a crippling request and as others have stated, while EV’s May become majority of sales, it will take years for them to displace the old fleet.

Only reporting on what they said, but if it’s true it would be awesome.

If a full size truck could get even close to those numbers without being a plug in it will be a game changer.

edit. They do state it is a prototype and it may be because the fuel flow computer isn’t calculated.

Change 'days' to 'decades' and I would agree.
