As the winter season approaches, the anticipation of hitting the slopes is palpable. For all you Bronco enthusiasts out there, it's time to gear up and ensure your ski and snowboard equipment is securely mounted to your vehicle. That's where we come in. At TrailRax, we're all about facilitating your adventure, and we're here to guide you on how to seamlessly mount your gear on the TrailRax TRMR rack. With that said, below will be links to the products we trust and know work!
Yakima FatCat EVO 4
Yakima FatCat EVO 6
Yakima FreshTrack 6
Yakima FreshTrack 4
Yakima SkyBox 12
Yakima SkyBox 16
Yakima SkyBox 18
Yakima SkyBox 21
All of these Yakima accessories clamp around the crossbars on the TRMR Rack the same way the would using normal Yakima crossbars. There are a lot of different options from different companies that bolt into a slot. We do not recommend these as we have no confirmed fitment with any of the racks or boxes that utilize that mounting system. Our crossbars support 1/4-20 hardware while most ski racks or boxes that mount into a slot will use M8 hardware or 5/16".
When talking about ski boxes, we only recommend the Yakima SkyBox line. With the SkyBox line, the mounting clamps protrude out of the bottom of the box and the bottom of the box stays flat. This allows it to mount to our rack. With other options, the box will contour on the bottom. The will make the mounting points of the box become recessed. Due to this, when mounting on your TRMR rack, the box will hit the other crossbars not allowing it to work.
While ski racks and boxes may work with our TRMR Half Rack, it is much better to use a full rack for this application. Because of the length of the half rack, your skis, snowboard, and ski box could potentially end up hanging off the back of your Bronco. This can impede on your rear window opening.
If you go with a box option and have a 2 door, make sure to check the length of your box to confirm it will fit! All the boxes mentioned above will fit a 4 door! The will fit a 2 door as well, however the longer boxes may overhang your wind deflector causing wind noise.
While other products could potentially work by being retrofitted, we recommend staying safe and using the products listed above. This will make install easy and painless while also insuring the gear you've invested so much money into stays safely mounted on top of your Bronco!
