Ford to phase out Sync in 2023

Software developer here. Pretty much zero chance of an OTA update upgrading you from Sync to Android Automotive OS. As is typical, you'll be stuck with Sync4 and maybe an upgrade or two before it's "sunset."

This is great news for 2023 model owners, though. Google is excellent about keeping their products updated with the latest and greatest. For this reason, I feel a lot more patient about waiting for my Wildtrak. In fact, I'm hoping it is delayed at least a few more months to guarantee I get the AA OS.

FWIW, that Ford Authority article was published back in February 2021 — almost a year and a half ago — and since then, almost nothing has remained on schedule in the Ford eco-system due to additional COVID variants worldwide and post-pandemic supply chain constraints.

Unless there has been a more recent update announced, I wouldn’t pin too much hope on a 23MY introduction of the Android Automotive OS. Remember the modular painted hardtops? Those were supposed to be available in 23MY, too.

Android is pretty solid. Probably your Sony device that was glitchy, or Sony's implementation of the OS.

I am very familiar with Android. I used Android phones for several years. Used to flash custom ROMS. But Android is always glitchy. It's because they have one OS that they try to spread over so many differnt devices and carriers. This is the reason iOS works and does what it's supposed to do. I need an OS that works consistently.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Android 12 had a few glitches when first introduced, but Google always works them out. Android does what it is supposed to do as well, and has some of the best software in the industry, like Google Maps.

Ok I'm not going to get into a debate with you. I'm talking way before Android 12. All the way back to Lollipop (Android 5). That borked many devices and took a while to get the glitches out. That is when I gave up on it. I need an OS that works and works consistently without tweaking. I don't trust Android as a primary.

That's nonsense. I've been using Android since 2.0. At that time Iphones also had a lot of bugs but both OSes have been refined dramatically since then and aren't anywhere near as 'glitchy' as they used to be.
