Its mustang enough to join my stable. The fact that its so polarizing is for a reason, it will draw that many more to it. People bitching about it likely arent buying an electric car if it printed money as it went down the road.
I see it differently. EV buyers aren't buying this for the name, and Mustang buyers aren't buying crossover EV's. Why muddy it up? That's the last I'll say on this.

If nothing else they sure as hell have created some discussion about this vehicle. If they released it and just called it Mach-E people would’ve had no idea it existed. Instead it made news everywhere, hell it was even on the front page of CNN yesterday.

Brand extensions are ubiquitous; walk down the grocery aisle & see that once a product catches on, it becomes surrounded by same-brand variations. Look at what Ford's doing with multiple Bronco products. It's not difficult to imagine Ford segregated into truck/van, Mustang, & Bronco silos - even enables many corporate structural/financial options.

My wife is pretty stoked at the potential of getting an EV Mustang. She loves her Fusion Energi, and having an EV Mustang has her way more interested then an EV Escape.

So your wife, who owns an EV, is buying this purely for the name?

What I got from that is ā€œFord did it as a publicity stunt, so you should like it because SICC TROLL BRUHā€

nah, that still doesn’t fly. It’s not a Mustang

Just like the Mach-E website "accidentally" going live the Friday before the release, companies are finding unique ways to leverage the 24-hour news cycle and social media by any means available. Neither the website going live nor naming it Mustang cost Ford anything more than they were going to spend anyways, yet the news and social media attention both techniques received could not be purchased at any price. Bronco's extreme secrecy may be another example - a near-total news blackout causes speculation to fill the void, and you can bet the media will hang on every scrap of official information once it begins to trickle out. I would call it guerrilla marketing, it wasn't the first and won't be the last time we see it.

Being on my 5th and 6th mustangs currently I can see why people are upset that this thing is called a mustang...

We've seen GM and what they do when they butcher old names. A lot of us don't want to see that happen to Ford.

Remember the mighty nova? Here's where it ended up after being reinvented in the 80s...

Or the impala rental car...

Or the new blazer or malibu or monte carlo or so many other names that got butchered. Nobody would have given a shit had they called it the Taurus-E...

That's all there is to it, people are upset that it got called a mustang, not necessarily that Ford is making another crossover or that it's an EV...

Exactly, another "too bad" article. If nobody said anything about it, Ford and E-lovers would be saying the opposite, "see, no one cared". I'll take my chances with the rage...............

Never said they were but the name drives conversation and conversely to what some beleive people will infact buy it because the name. I've had no less than 5 people in 48hrs talk about the "electric mustang" with two saying they never considered an electric till now.

I, for one, reserved a grabber blue 1st edition a few minutes ago. I'm actually pretty impressed with what I've seen about it so far and I don't want to miss out on that sexy color if we decide to go through with buying one.
What's weird is they show'd the GT in grabber blue but only offer the First Edition in grabber blue.

Jake... the fact that Ford did or didn’t call certain things over the years doesn’t really matter. Ford as called a LOT of things ā€œmustangā€ over the years. Honestly, as a whole probably 90% of mustangs ever sold were complete dogshit vehicles. I haven’t seen anybody call the Mach E bad, they just don’t want it called a mustang. So since it’s a better vehicle than most mustangs from basically every perspective, where’s the issue? You can talk about Iacocca rolling in his grave or whatever but it’s not like that even matters. It’s a fast car, it looks like mustang, it’s a ford product. Sounds closer to a ā€˜67 than an I4 2.3 Lima Foxbodybdoes to me.
Fast car?! What are you talking about?! 0-60 is 7 seconds! Yeah...."fast"! haha! Can't wait until all these comparison videos come out! Not even the "GT" will hang with a 4 banger Mustang.

haha! Sounds like politics. People voting based on headlines without actually know what/who they are voting for.
