We want to store/hide a spare FOB inside our Bronco (this is our first keyless start vehicle). What are the pros and cons of storing the FOB inside a faraday bag vs. simply removing the FOB battery? We figure we could simply reinstall the battery for use . . . or it's my understanding you can still start the vehicle with the FOB, without the battery, if it's placed in the bottom, center console FOB slot?

I suppose you could remove the metal key and place it on your key ring. Remove the battery from the fob and hide it. Unlock the doors with the metal key and place the fob into the cubby spot…..

I just keep the spare fob hidden in (or out of the car, you won't find out) without the battery in it. You can start the car with the fob if the battery is dead or removed so make sure to hide it. Keep the battery in the car too for convenience.

This is a great idea.

I use a Faraday bag. Easy and more convenient than removing the battery. If you get a bag, test it and make sure it does shield the FOB from the vehicle.

And they reputedly wear out over time....

Aluminum foil.
(Also works great as the proverbial emergency hat for when THEY are near...)

But seriously, AL foil can work.

Just drive downtown and find someone, anyone really. Then pull over and hand them your keys. This will save you all the effort of worrying about it all the time.

Leaving the key in the car is just asking for trouble. Get clothes with pockets or at least belt loops to hang the key on. I don't get it.

OP, You mentioned this is your first keyless vehicle.

The whole point, is you put the keys in your purse or your pocket and they never come out.

You don't need to have access to your key to open, lock, or start the Bronco.

Just not sure why you're trying to hide a fob. If your keys never come out, you'll never lose them.

The only thing you got to worry about, is if you go somewhere with your significant other and drop them off... Make sure the keys are in your pocket and not theirs :)

I hear ya, but sometimes it doesn’t matter how careful you are, sh*t happens. Once you’ve miss-placed/lost a FOB 2000 mi from home . . . waited 8 hrs to have your vehicle towed 100 mi to a dealer on a Sat . . . spent two nights in a hotel . . . then charged $1200 for a new FOB on Mon . . . your perspective changes. This happened to a friend. Could happen to anyone.

Yeah I suppose. In that rare case, maybe a fob with the battery taken out and hidden inside somewhere.

Ironically the battery in my mother in laws fob went dead last night while she was out. I drive to the store, unlocked the door with the physical key, and was able to start the car even with a dead fob....of course had she lost the thing it would have made for a much longer night!

I did that to my wife.... At the hospital I jumped out and let her park. The Bronco would not move, it still ran, but won't go outta park. đź‘´
