Went ahead and replace my CAF with one off Amazon that has both a mechanical filter and a charcoal filter. Noticed it was much more restrictive than OEM as expected. Can hear a little fan whine now.

Anyone try these before and has seen how they impact the system long term?

I had the same experience it seemed to restrictive so tossed it. Went back to OEM and I run a Bosch in my F150 both seem much better when it comes to flow.

The only effect I could really see would be nominally higher fan motor wear since the system may work a bit harder on auto. I put one of those in my 4Runner and also ended up throwing it out and going back to OEM as losing the air flow was unacceptable in Arizona.

Will probably avoid moving forward for this exact reason.

I've noticed that airflow, especially when using more than one output I do have to bump up the speed 1-2 notches. I can also feel vibration at higher fan speeds.

I'll run it for a while and if I don't like it I may try an OEM filter + cut to fit charcoal filter to see if that's less restrictive.
