Driving on Washington beaches

Hi!
Do I need to deflate in order to drive on Washington beaches? I’m used to sand dunes in the desert that absolutely require deflation. Is the beach different?

I have not had to deflate on Washington and Oregon beaches with my Sas bronco, 2nd Gen Tacoma, stock 4Runer etc. I am sure there are places and conditions where it would be needed.

It all depends on how dry/soft the sand is where you are at. More than likely you will not need to air down. But be prepare for the worse (boards and ropes) in case things go sideways (or down in this case).

Stay out of the dry/loose sand and you will be fine.

The only Washington beach I've driven on is Long Beach. That sand was so hard I didn't bother airing down and had no issues.

As with any kind of terrain, use good judgement and air down if you start running into trouble. Also, don't be afraid to throw it in reverse and bail if the conditions aren't good. Sometimes it's just not worth the headache of getting stuck in a situation you're unfamiliar with.

If you stay on the harder packed sand (not closest to the ocean) you will not need to air down. I have been on the beach with the Bronco at Ocean Shores and at Roosevelt beach and no issues at either, didn't even need 4 wheel drive.

Curious where you’re driving on beaches in Washington?

We went out to Westport. It was super easy. No deflation necessary. The bronco was great!
