From the BBC report on this:

That said, this January Ford announced it had entered into a partnership with Amazon to allow its drivers to connect to their cars and Ford’s technology through the cloud. This new feature effectively turns the car into an Amazon Echo on wheels. The Echo is an always-on device that has already sparked huge privacy concerns as it sits in your living room quietly and passively listening for you to give it a command. And now it will quietly listen to you in your car as well.

I hear it offers to order and ship a fresh pair of underwear to your next destination if you come to an abrupt stop at certain speeds

Tracking cookies. It's a pretty simple technology really. Use in-private/incognito mode, and uBlock, problem solved.
Supercookies are the new hot thing
https://nordvpn.com/blog/super-cookies-going-global/

And browser fingerprinting
https://pixelprivacy.com/resources/browser-fingerprinting/

And for the record I am not anti-tech, its that we are at the point where you can't live a normal life and not be tracked every second of it. And we should all be letting companies know we don't like nor want it rather than accepting it like "oh well".

I'm well aware of those "features" both are avoidable with certain extensions. You can always use Tor as well to avoid it. In fact there are ways to avoid all of that stuff for the most part and still do things online. Although at a point it becomes so much of a hassle that it's not worth it for what you're actually preventing.

Anyway, as I said in a previous post, I agree there should definitely be better legislation protecting individual privacy. At least in terms of how information can be used, or sold, given a particular service. And those services should be audited for their practices. I don't see this changing any time soon though, so in the mean time, you can do simple things to avoid the most obvious of crap that they do.

I hear you and there was a time when I was alarmed by all of the shady tech, but I'm afraid that the train has not only left, but it's at full speed right now.

Fact is, no one really cares. When they first started to put cameras on cell phones back in like 2002, that was all of the evidence I needed. Of course at the time, I think law enforcement thought it would help for us to police one another. Now, the surveillance tools are used to police everyone and everything.

Snowden basically made an attempt to warn America to wake up to the new reality, but again, no one really blinked.

Well, obviously some of you were illuminated, but that's a small population and you're labeled as fringe guys. Tor browsers and VPNs make no difference, the minute you start to use any computer, you're done. Even hackers find it hard to evade for very long.

This is a futile topic now. However, if you're not breaking laws or plotting against anyone, group, or the government, there really isn't a reason to be immediately alarmed.

But that's just it isn't it? Many with these concerns can't truthfully answer "No" to the above statement, so there you have it.....

When I see someone using the Facebook app on their smart phone, I always ask them ridiculous stuff like
You shopping for midget lingerie?

Just to see if they have not disabled the microphone and then they start getting super weird targeted ads.

It's a blast.

I hate to disappoint anyone, but usually the people who are the most alarmist about being monitored and tracked aren’t important enough to monitor and track.

When it comes to private companies, they only care about the data in aggregate. Knowing how many times *you* go to Whole Foods is useless data... knowing how many times *everyone* goes to Whole Foods is gold. Sure you’re being tracked, but not because they want to know anything about you.

That thing where an old hippy thinks they’re still relevant enough that the NSA will want to read their Public Radio annual donation receipt emails.

Are only those individuals that are of specific interest to orgs doing the tracking allowed the right to privacy or have an opinion on how their data is collected or used?

I'm certainly 'not important' enough for anyone to look at what I do on an individual level and have no delusions of my place in society. Regardless of those things I value my privacy and given the choice don't want my data used even in aggregate.

I'm ripping out that sound deadening headliner to pack in more foil to block out all them gubmint satellites!

If they want to look at what porn I watch, and the horrific amount of door dash and uber eats and $23 Jack in The Box orders so big I order two drinks so they don't think I'm eating it all I get when I'm emotional eating, and what kind of ice cream I eat while I sit on the couch and cry watching 'Maybe He's Just Not That Into You' for the 33rd time on the anniversary that my prom date from high school left me...strap in and and hold on, it's a sad, disgusting ride, but it is what it is, yo.

I'm not interesting enough to track, and if they do, I don't really care.

No I dont want high package, or mid, or lux, so I ordered Standard. If I could get lower than standard I would. I dont need a screen or backup cameras. I just need steering wheel, pedals, and a shifter.

I really want a "technology delete" package.

Other than the Aux switches, I have ordered the most absolute basic base I can buy.

I will pass on the FordPass.

Agree with BlazinGTO that we need better legislation.
Don’t let them sign you up for fordpass (the salespeople are literally forced to try to make you download it) or if you do delete as soon as you’re off the lot lol
