This thread inspired me. Just used a 3/8 thick sheet of MDF, some 1/16 aluminum angle bar, Steel L brackets, cheap carpet from Amazon, and some pins. I think it turned out pretty good. Probably gonna spray paint the bottom of the MDF and the aluminum bars black. Also working on 3D printing som trim pieces to cover the gap when the gate is closed. I'll try and get some pictures the next time the top comes off

Looks good. If you used steel for the cross bars, you could get rid of that middle brace underneath. The nice thing about the plastic is that it can be flexed to fit in between the roll bar for installation, allowing it to be one solid piece. That and it is waterproof since we keep the top and doors off all summer. It took a lot of trial and error with my cardboard template to get it to match up to the tailgate curve.

When i built mine, I found the easiest way to get the curve, was to place some painters tape across the inside and top edge of the tailgate, placed the board in place on top of the tailgate, squeezed myself into the cargo area, closed the tailgate, and traced the curve of the tailgate.
