It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

And for arguments sake my 2012 JK as per KBB is $15,500-$17,800 for private party sale. It's a stripper Sport that I got down to 21k before tax and tags brand new. Not bad for 9 years of daily driven use.

Exactly, now I can totally justify my selfish purchase.

What will be more interesting is what the Bronco does to that depreciation. Being the only one of its kind, but with poor quality and reliability, Bronco could turn this on its head.

Should also have a high residual value which in turn will give me a lower monthly payment!

Unless they jack up the money factor. When the ranger launched, a 3 year 10.5k mile lease had a residual that was close to 70%. The money factor was so high that nobody leased them. Hopefully this doesnt happen with Bronco.

I just priced out some Rangers at work. 2018 xlt, and a 2019 fx4. 3k, 4k mileage range and both were selling just over $30k.

Built a couple Rangers on the website similarly optioned looked to be $42ish range.

How'd you price out a 2018 Ranger seeing as they just came back to N'America in 2019?

My understanding is the higher the residual value so if it was 70% the lower the monthly payment? Higher residual Basically means that when you return at the end of the lease the value of the vehicle is higher thus depreciating less thus lower payment?

He said the money factor was too high. Not the same thing.

In theory yes. My point is that the money factor can be manipulated to dissuade people from leasing, as was the case with the ranger. What better way to keep your resale values high than to limit the supply of used vehicles that enter the market i.e. lease returns. Just my opinion, but I would not expect a strong lease out of the gate despite the high residuals. I'd bet by 2022 you'll have a decent lease program. Hoping i'm wrong, because i'm all in on leasing.

You will need to factor in that the Jeep really had the segment to itself. By introducing a second vehicle into the equation, I believe that there will likely be a negative impact to historical values that Jeep has seen -- but hopefully not significantly for the sake of the used Bronco!

FJ Cruiser prices are also very high.

Something about this type of vehicle that retains value.
I traded my 9 year old FJ in on a tacoma two years ago, it had 155k miles and still got $16,500 on a trade...
