At an average of cost of $3.50 for gas and $4.00 (based on generic east coast daily price) for diesel, you are only looking at a $83 difference. I would go for comfort over economy on this one.

Either that or take the diesel and buy her a big ribeye with the money saved.

Just in case anyone was dying for an update... I took the Bronco. Round trip was 2810 miles and I averaged 19.9 mpg. It rained on the entire drive up to New Hampshire. I kept the speed down to about 5 over speed limit (drive ranged from 55 to 70 mph speed limits) and had it in ecomode most of the trip. Everglades was comfortable and confident in the rain. Not sure that ecomode accomplishes any additional economy.
