Just store a little wil in the cargo area on a cookie sheet.

I am getting out about 5-10 miles.

Stealth set up for sure.

I do like your idea, but have you thought instead of a cookie sheet, couldn’t you just get a piece of metal or a magnet and put it underneath the cargo mat? I wonder if the antenna magnet is strong enough could you put it on top of the soft top and connected to one of the bars? I thought about doing that with a hard top if and when I decide to get a CB.

Yes, it could go under the mat. It works better with the metal exposed.

No need to put it atop the roof. It works inside. That is the beauty of it.

A Citzen's Band transceiver(stock and legal) has a peak output of, at most, 4W peak. But that antenna still is pretty close to you, the driver. If you're going to do anything more than short transmissions, and use it mostly intermittently just for receiver, you'll be OK. But the FCC RF exposure guidelines have tightened the past few years. Additionally, you'll be getting some pretty significant attenuation with the antenna being that low, with metal surrounding it.

If you plan on keeping the radio in your Bronco, I'd plan to buy a metal mounting bracket situated behind the spare tire on the tailgate. Amazon and EBay is full of passenger-side brackets, and MountainsToMetal recently released (finally) a driver-side equivalent.
