So I finally cancelled my original order because I bought someone else's abandoned order 6 months ago. I'm a non-reservation holder (walk-in order) and placed my order with a $1,000 deposit 391 days ago. I emailed my dealer to cancel my order, and he said my $1,000 deposit refund check can be picked up at the dealer.

All good, easy-peasy, and got my deposit back. But I literally didn't have to do any paperwork or sign anything to cancel, which makes me think the dealer isn't actually going to cancel my order and will keep it in the system to put on the lot whenever it gets built. I have no build date yet, and I did the COVP process back in November '22.

Does this sound shady what the dealer is doing? Should I have signed some sort of order cancellation? I'm happy I have my money back, but at the same time I don't want the dealer to take advantage of this situation, and also want to clear a build spot for others waiting.

How do I confirm my order is actually cancelled? Ford chat?

Thank You

You're a walk in, I wouldn't worry about it at this point. If you ordered a Bronco loaded with constraints it's not getting built and if it didn't have constraints all the reservation folks with similar builds were ahead of you anyways.

I don't see the problem here. You purchased an abandoned order. Why can't someone else?

I mean, my dealer ordered a four door "by accident" and when it showed up three months later, they sold it to someone else. (My 2dr took 18 months, I had a reservation.)

I would assume they're trying not to cancel it, another quick-to-sell Bronco on the lot in lieu of not making an actual sale that year-long period.

Unless they come back to you and try to say you have to buy it (which I doubt), you're probably fine.

Nobody has to buy their order so the OP is fine either way. If they were dead set on selling it to him, they wouldn't have given his deposit back.
Get your check, turn around and don't look back.

Thanks everyone. All I'm trying to do is prevent ADM in the market and clear a build spot for others. Just trying to do the right thing here in addition to getting my deposit back.

I understand that and would feel the same way, but I don't think there is anything much you can do. My only concern would be if you tried to order another on and your name was still in the system ;)

So it’s ok for you to buy an abandoned order but not ok for someone else? Makes sense.

I dont get why this matters to OP. You got your money and don't have any obligation to buy anything. I hope the dealer can keep the order for their own stock. Nothing shady about any of this.
