Has anyone bought bought from salvage yards from Facebook? Found deal on a top that willing to do a deal. Long story short just worried about getting burned on the top or money or heck both. But also part of the deal is a trade so don’t want stuck without a top. So any advise to safe guard against anything bad would be appreciated.

They are always scams. There's even secure PayPal transactions made with hacked verified PayPal accounts where the scammer cashes out what was paid, the transaction is reversed by PayPal, and leaves the original PayPal account holder with deficit. Another scam is you send the part to scammer and they send you another part (which never arrives).

I'd only do in person deals.

Do the deal in person. It’s probably too large to ship economically anyway. At the very least mention meeting to do the deal. If they start to squirm or say it’s actually Aunt Sally’s top, you’ll know it’s probably a scam. .

I buy from the salvage yard ALL THE TIME.

But it's always in-person.
