Hello! Has anyone gone through the “buy back” process with Ford? I have a defective 2021 Badlands that I am officially done with. My dealership said that they take the dealership out of the process and the customer deals with Ford directly. I’m starting the process this week and was curious if anyone has been through it?

It depends largely on what state you live in, as each state has different buyback laws. According to your profile you live in Maine, and admittedly I have absolutely no idea what the lemon laws in Maine are.

BUT… typically it’s a months’ long process. If Ford approves your case… it usually ends one of 3 ways:

1. Ford will pay your lien holder a specific amount less vehicle wear/tear based on a formula that is typically written into your state’s laws. In most cases you will see very little of this money and most of it will go to the lien holder, so usually this is not the preferred option.
2. Ford will give you a trade-in assistance voucher, effectively allowing you to trade-in your Bronco for another vehicle with some added money thrown on top.
3. Ford will replace your vehicle with a similar vehicle. Historically this is what people normally do, but with all of the current component shortages, it honestly just may not be feasible right now.

Thank you for this information! Yes, replacing it would be the route I would prefer to go. Sadly, it doesn't seem realistic to pursue that option. If they could give me an estimate of when I could get a replacement (6mos? a year?) I would probably suck it up and wait, but they can't even give me a ballpark idea.

Just look for lemon law attorneys, call a couple and settle on the one you like. I had to file suit against Ford before over a lemon truck, attorney settled everything out of court which I’m sure happens 99.98% of the time.

It has electrical issues that they can't figure out. It was just in the shop for over a month, I got it back and it is doing the same thing. They replaced the ABS module, which they said was the problem, but it obviously wasn't. I detailed it in this post:
https://www.bronco6g.com/forum/thre...vance-trac-pre-collision-assist-issues.42769/
unfortunately you’ll have to give them more chances to fix it. Ford sent some “specialist” engineer to look at my truck and that was after the fourth/fifth fix. It went back 2-3 times after that. During this ordeal I asked dealer and Ford about buy back, taking it back etc and was pretty much ignored, given the run around. It’s like they hope you just go away even though you have $40k plus sitting there not working. It was an eye opening experience and lawyer told me all the manufacturers handle it the same way.

Ugh, so disappointing. I’m on the 4th time bringing it in as of now. The last time they had it for over a month and had a field specialist come out to diagnose it. What was the final outcome of your experience?

How has the dealer been? The fastest easiest way is to go through the dealers GM, they will speak with the dealers zone rep about it and they will get the ball rolling.
Option number two would be going through BBB/State atty General, they should have the process detailed on their websites.
Option three is a pain in the ass and would be hiring a lemon lawyer. Keep in mind their in business to make money so the longer it goes the more they recover in atty fees which depending on your state the manufacture would be on the hook for. You could also be subpoenaed have to attend a deposition and or court.
If the dealer can’t repair your problem they shouldn’t have an issue getting you another vehicle with a trade voucher wether it’s a bronco or something else.

I do know some states you can start lemon law after “x” number of attempts (has to be the same issue if I remember correctly) and if I remember “x” numbers of days in the shop has something to do with it as well. You’ll have to read up on your states lemon laws. I’m sure it’s changed since I went through it, 10 plus years ago.

I'm pretty sure she has done that already if she is talking about "buy back".
In most states 30 days out of service, or 3x tries on the same issue, will trigger it.

Curious to know what happened with your situation. My Bronco has been at dealership for almost 4 months with a gateway module failure. I'm going through possible buyback option but its a big lowball and with current rates, the chances of getting another one are slim to none. Replacement vehicle was not an option when I initiated a claim through the BBB. I'm starting to chat with a lawyer but its hard to know if I let this Bronco sit on lot, if there will ever be a replacement part. There seems to be no ETA from Ford Parts as it's a third party part.

A software update finally fixed the issue for me, so I didn’t go through the buy back process. So sorry that you are dealing with it, I know how frustrating it is.
