Bubbling/Peeling Paint - Less Than a Month Owned

Hey Everyone,

Looks like my little Bronco is heading to the body shop to repair some corrosion under the paint. I noticed some bubbling on the rockers when I was giving it its first wash. There's also a paint bubble at the bottom of the driver side door that's actually large enough to stick your fingernail underneath it and peel it off...

I spoke with my dealer and they sent me to their local body shop, so far it seems like everything is covered under warranty. It still sucks that it's going to take about 2 weeks for them to repaint the door/rocker/front quarter panel . Has anyone had similar experiences? Will my paint match up like new or am I destined to have a two tone Bronco now? Also should I ask for a loaner car in this situation? Pictures below:

Yes, I have a blotch on the rocker rail, in pretty much the exact spot as you. Noticed it before delivery, which the dealer said they could address. In my case, it could probably be wet sanded, but I left it in fear it would create a need to respray a larger area. As for the door, it's not uncommon for these doors to chip on the bottom due to poor alignment and sagging, but that's normally on the corner. I walked the lot and looked at multiple new Broncos and saw this on many. Mine started to chip in the corner from hitting the door sill due to the sag/poor alignment. So I realigned my doors, put a dab of paint on it, called it good.

If you want your dealer to address your concerns, ask them to be transparent with you about their plan to fix it. If it requires any level of respraying the area, it sounds like your know the likely outcome already - rocking a 2 tone. Might be better off leaving it. The doors aluminum, not certain about the rocker.

I have weird paint bubble defects On my 2dr too. Hood, fender and fender flare. Dealer had it a week and repainted the hood decided to skip the rest and the top which someone sanded something off on one side of the plastic top, and had paint on one of the t top panels. I have to fight with them about the top next week. Really disappointed. They're painting the fender and flare Monday. Don't know what they will do for the top.

After waiting years then three months sitting in their gravel parking lot waiting for shipping I am really over the BS. 9 months they had my 4dr parked up there last year

My only concern would be that door paint that's starting to detach from the panel, I feel like it might get worse over time and end up peeling a huge chunk of it off. I don't know enough about corrosion/paint to know what's going to happen to that bubbling under the paint over 10 years

I understand. See what your dealership says, and make it known that you would like to be informed on their plan, and that you want them to reach you if it deviates from the plan you OK. Meaning "call me if it comes to repainting. I don't want the paint to mismatch", or whatever your most comfortable with. I'd guess it would just touched up and not repainted Read reviews on their body shop and look at pics people post of their work.

In my case, the small chip occurred on my door. I picked off the tiny bit of bubbling, cleaned it with rubbing alcohol, and swapped some nail polish (actually matched really well) onto the area.

Ford has had issues painting aluminum body panels since at least 2005. Check out hood corrosion issues on S197 and S550 Mustangs. If it's the same issue, simply repainting the panel will NOT resolve it, the panel needs to be replaced and properly prepped.

Don't think the doors will suffer from galvanic corrosion since there's no dissimilar metal (steel) touching the bottom of the door panel. I could be wrong.

I wouldn't put it past Ford to sandwich steel between aluminum for rigidity.

In October of 2021 we took delivery of a new 2021 Ford Edge ST from Phil Long Ford in Denver. When we went to have a clear bra applied and a custom pinstripe painted we noticed a small paint defect on the rear passenger door and on the hood. While both paint defects were relatively minor I returned to our service advisor at Phil Long Ford and he was able to get approval to cover the paint repair from Ford as a warranty claim.

Our service advisor worked with a local body shop and the body shop had our Ford Edge for about 2 weeks to complete the paint repairs. When we got it back the paint repairs were perfectly blended and the paint repairs looked perfect. I have attached two photos showing the paint defects prior to the Ford Dealer approved body shop fixing the paint defects.

Bottom line, for an expensive Ford Bronco do not settle for a sub-par paint job. Make them fix it under warranty. Our service advisor at Phil Long Ford was very attentive and readily agreed that these paint defects should be covered under warranty and he took care of it.

Could be bad metal under there.
had to have my tailed replaced after getting rear ended. They had one stock so I was pretty happy they’d have the new one ready quickly. When I checked on my advisor, also the manager, said he looked at the one they had and the primer itself a was flaking off and they wouldn’t paint it. He susp cited contaminated metal. They did a great job matching the paint. Velocity blue and I defy anyone to see a difference.

This has likely been there since new, but just noticed at 1k miles when I had it on the lift(bottom of passenger door)
