Just because it's designed to meet industry-standard rollover tests for highway vehicles doesn't mean it's designed to roll down a mountain. If you're anticipating rolling down a mountain, I'd suggest going ahead and getting a cage.
This. My buddy who builds jeeps one of his main things he does is build cages. “Good enough for OEMS” and “good enough to rock crawl extensively” are two different things.

It is a real possibility when your on a single lane trail with a 1000' drop.
Sounds like you need a roll-bar with a built in parachute! Alternatively, you could duct tape a bunch of cats to your frame and ensure you will always land right-side up.

From what I read about Boron steel it is 2.5 times harder that regular steel and is widely used in automotive components. I am sure that Ford has taken crash testing into account when designing the truck. I also am sure that if they did add more bracing to the test mules it was because the engineers are not professional off road drivers and are going to push the limits of the trucks capabilities which are probably beyond their driving capabilities.

They probably put a roll cage for the trip.

But most buyers are not professional off road drivers either, just saying...

I wonder if the prototype standard rollbars are mild steel as maybe the available pre-production presses could not handle boron steel. In the meantime the production presses that can handle boron steel are being ordered and installed later in the schedule.

Do we have any ME's that would like to chime in?
