Bronco Owners Going Soft?

I don't want or need the screens that are present in many of the lux vehicles today (I am looking at you Tesla/Audi/Volvo). I think there are some basics that are minimum attributes for a vehicle to be produced in 2020. 60 grand is some sturdy cash, and yes it is not 90 grand and a Land Cruiser level of bleep.

I do love the message, but we all have baselines, where those stand are different for each person.

I Totally get what you are say, I think we all have gotten a little soft as our society caters to us more and more. But that being said vehicles these days are expensive, hell my 1st house 22 years ago was 47k, now everyone is ok with building out a 60k plus bronco, I think it’s ok to ask and want more out of our car manufactures if they are asking us to pay these astronomical prices..

A 1966 Bronco was probably about 30% of the average household income and a 2021 will be closer to 75% with options. Give me a new Bronco for $20k and I will expect to roll the windows up by hand, sweat my arse off and Turn my head to look behind me when I back up, but for $55-$60k it better give me a massage and a happy ending.

I think where the main problem is, is so much stuff has become standard in vehicles now that when its not standard or available its kind of like what the hell.

I shop at Wholefoods, I'm a vegan and a Millennial. I'll drive my topless bronco down to get a nice single origin espresso while I wear my skinny jeans but I agree with you. I think a happy medium exists where we can be a modern buyer and also appreciate the retro and rough ruggedness this vehicle brings back to the market that has long been forgotten without having to complain about these things you mentioned that essentially means you might as well go get an Explorer, and not a Bronco.

There is a beauty about not having heated seats, or leather-wrapped steering, or rear window vents, or not having 100% flat reclinable rear seats. If it brings it, good, if it doesn't, it doesn't matter. I want a 60s Bronco with a new engine and new interior and thats what this Bronco brings. To me, anything else is an extra.

As I spent some time perusing the site this weekend I was taken aback by some things.

To me (as a 47 year old guy) the Bronco harkens back to the rugged individualists like our fathers and grandfathers. A tough as nails ride that could do things unheard of at the time for a commercially produced vehicle.

But are we too modern? Are we too soft?

I see threads complaining about not being able to get air conditioned seats at a certain trim level. Do you think your grandad was worried about cold air blowing up his rear end while he ran his Bronco down to the lake to go fishing? If cold air up the backside is so important then just maybe a vehicle designed to have the top and doors off may not be right for you.

Lots of complaints about vinyl seats being too hot and sweaty. Basically, see the above comments. Some of y'all never rode around on vinyl bench seats in your grandmas old car without air conditioning back in the day and it shows. I can remember peeling myself off the vinyl/pleather seats in an old VW my aunt drove back then. No permanent harm. You too shall survive.

I saw some nit picking about not having built in garage door openers in the visors at some trim levels. Really? Are we really this needy? Is the indignity of having to carry around a garage door opener just going to be a deal breaker? It's possibly the most capable off road vehicle straight off the showroom floor ever produced. . . but we're going to stress no opener. C'mon man.

Complaints about not being able to get a 12 inch screen at some trims abound as well. You're driving a vehicle, not watching netflix. You don't need a giant flat screen planted in the middle of your dash in order to properly operate your rig. Look out the window. See the world around you. Pay attention to the idiots driving around looking at their screen(s) and take evasive action. Stop staring at the thing parked in your dash. It's overkill.

I think some here may be better serviced by getting something like a Land Rover/Range Rover or other luxury SUV. There you can ride around pampered, cold air blowing up your arse, as you push the button to open the garage to park your ride in so it won't dare get dirty. I've owned those. They are great. But they are a FAR cry from their off road/rugged heritage. If that's what you want or need, go get it.

A Bronco is going to be many different things to many different people but the breed/brand is hard and outdoorsy. It's not refinement and luxury. It's rugged and rough around the edges. It is not skinny jeans sipping a latte on the way to spin class . . . it's wearing carharts with some black coffee on the way to spend time in the outdoors on a mountain bike. So behave accordingly.

Just one grumpy old man opinion. Rant is over. Now, get off my lawn. ;-)

Great Post ? thank you people over extenuate basic necessities now that’s why things are overly expensive wanting something in something that doesn’t need it, one main reasons I want my 2-Ford Big Ben Cyber Orange or Black Diamond Trim Automatic is because it’s simple and it’s an outdoor type of vehicle I am use to going to the beach or lake and bringing along my fishing rods and lores to fish just incase and go home and cooking fresh caught salmon omg I should be Colorado not in Florida lol because I enjoyed the beautiful picturesque scenery while fishing the calmness of it all being Able to drive yourself to the lake or a river walk and take your bike out and ride early in the morning off that fresh cup coffee I enjoy the seasonal Starbucks coffee taste, guys stop they have other vehicles for that I think we have become to need let things improve at a slow in steady pace if you don’t like the Simplicity of Bronco well hey there’s other vehicle but I like the retro simple design as well the fact it was though of as a 1964 Bronco an nostalgia is Amazing

Yes.. bronco owners have gotten soft. Back in the days bronco owners didnt have seats..they had saddles to sit on and if they are lucky, they would have covered wagons with solid front and rear axles to haul their family in. No complaints of not having a windshield, powersteering etc. But then again...none of that luxury existed for them to want it during that time. ...I mean, I expect my bronco to have wheels. The technology has been out for a while.

Yep new bronco owners are pretty soft . But so arent modern americans. No matter how many guns they own or go how much they hunt, they will still go expect luxury wherever they can get it.

I was looking for some paperwork and came by the invoice for my 96 bronco in my files. $33,000 fully loaded with luxuries like Track Lock, AC, dome light group, cloth seats, carpeted floors, painted hardtop, push button 4x4, and a CD changer. Mine isnt an eddie bauer but it is near top end its more like the Badlands. But just 25 years ago people considered all that luxury. I still do, its very cush.

I dont know what to say we all suck these days and our parents would laugh at us at how good we got it.

This is one of the stupidest threads I've seen on this forum so far... it's called 'progress' - don't want it, go buy yourself a 1942 Jeep Willy's for your daily commute to work.

The OP lives in a house on the side of a mountain that he bought. Himself. The house. Not the mountain. He works on it with tools that he purchased himself. . . at ACE Hardware. He does go out and kill deer, ducks, dove (dove season opens in 11 days and I've got a five acre sunflower/corn field birds are pouring into currently) to help feed his family. He does in fact pick many quarts of wild blackberries on his farm and makes a mean cobbler. Blueberry bushes are being planted this fall.
