BMV sales taxes

After getting plates and sales taxes paid to Indiana I am curious what others have been told.
I received 2,500 for removing Sasquatch, and received 3,525 Price Protection from,21,22, 23 increases.
Purchase sheet showed all of the above which my understanding was proof that I bought it as I ordered it .
What I paid for it being 35,000+ was not looked at, instead they charged sales tax on 41,000+ invoice .Was BMV correct to do that since it was a correction of the invoice to dealer because I followed all the programs correctly.

I know in MI, you are taxed on the base-MSRP

Not sure how it works in Indiana but in Maine you only pay sales tax on the price you pay. Makes no sense whatsoever you'd pay sales tax for more than what you paid.

This is the same in Maine for excise tax but not sales tax.
