There are a ton of posts about stuck, black or other start up screen issues. In 3 months I've had 5 issues with black screen, extremely slow start up screen or non-responsive screen.

I think the problem all along has been Apple car play. After a week with all iPhones with car play turned off, not a single problem and splash screen once again starts as soon as a door is opened and driver/passenger seated. System still connects to IPHONE, but with CarPlay on phone turned off, CarPlay doesn't try to sync.

I wouldn’t completely blame CarPlay. The display should turn on quickly regardless of source. I sometimes sit and watch the black screen wondering what’s next. Blaming CarPlay is sort of like blaming your internet provider for slow speeds when your computer takes 10 minutes to boot up. Don’t need internet to boot up.

I’ll second this…
*When* CarPlay works mine pairs with CarPlay at around the 20 second mark, give or take a few seconds. Even if CarPlay were jamming it up the screen should still boot up for at least a few seconds prior to freezing after trying to pair. Not saying carplay works great but I wouldn’t blame it for this.
My screen fails to launch about 1 in every 10 starts/button pushes. It has always eventually woken up but that time varies from 30 seconds to several minutes delay. ‘22 Mid package

For a while I thought it was using the forward camera at parking, whether in garage or parking spaces, but that didn't make sense. Both our iPhone's have huge play lists (100-500 pieces of music). Without that syncing burden, since we use Sirus/XM anyway, the proper response time for the Bronco is restored. During the error times, I tried the holding the stereo power button and forward button at the same time fix that many said worked, but it had no effect.

Yeah, I don't want to blame CarPlay, but the absence of that has created a trouble free environment. You could blame the iPhone SE (2nd Gen) or the iPhone 13, but you'd think CarPlay should be able to handle 500 tracks of music. OR NOT. IDK.
