An overcast beach drive

Taking my Bronco Outer Banks (Broncito) for a quick loop out to the Breezy Point Jetty, here in NY. Was racing against an incoming tide, the last water crossing before the beach gets too deep to cross during the Full Moon. Thanks to the surfer for checking the depth for me on the way out!

I live at the beach and my Bronco is at home on the sand. Probably no one spends more time on the beach than me (I'm there almost everyday except for the worst weather). But a tidal water crossing is a no bueno. That salt water will eat metal. No matter how thorough you clean the undercarriage, you won't get rid of it all. Never let it dry.

Best bet is to get a sh!tbox for a beach vehicle so you don't have to be bothered with the preventative maintenance. Save the Bronco for driving on the dry beach (still need to clean out under as the salt is trapped in the dry sand and is released as dust).

Thanks for the advice! Luckily I only live a couple minute drive down the road and got fresh water on the whole truck right away. Flushed out the chasiss and I’ve got an under carriage cleaner for the pressure washer.

Never used the product so can't give any review. You are right that living anywhere north of the rust belt should be cause for concern regarding salt and the brining they do on the roads.

Having a undercarriage cleaner for the pressure washer is the best course of action especially before the salt has a chance to dry. I would also minimize the impact that the salt can penetrate. Crossing the water at low speed is one thing. Splashing it over the hood was something entirely preventable. Open your hood and you'll see the remnants of the spray all over that your undercarriage attachment has no way to mitigate.

I don't mean to imply that the Bronco or any vehicle shouldn't be enjoyed. But only you can determine if the juice is worth the squeeze (cleanup/maintenance to mitigate the salt intrusion may not be worth the 2 seconds of splashing in the water).
