If you look at some of my earlier posts, you can see the issues I had to overcome with my first sales guy botching my order and basically ignoring me in general. That got straightened out by the GSM and another great sales guy at the dealer but I am stuck in the same unscheduled hell as many, many, many others; acknowledging that other's wait and hell have been much greater than mine. The latest communication by Ford, of which I still never received like everything else, spurred us to action; even being toward the top of the dealer allocation list was no guaranty, particularly because a) I wasn't giving up my LUX and particularly MIC top and b) I learned that the dealers have been put on allocation for constrained commodities (e.g., our dealer was apparently only allocated 18 SAS for the rest of 2023!). So we started to search new inventory and particularly used. We looked close by to Memphis, but also places that we could easily fly to. Plan was to buy something and if our order is scheduled, trade in what we bought for what we ordered...maybe.
Like many of you, most of the results were $5-20,000 over MSRP, already sold, or not what we were looking for, i.e., MIC and Lux on an OBX or higher were required. And then last Friday, we found a used 2022 OBX with relatively low miles (produced 10/22, delivered 11/22) , MIC, LUX, tow AND SAS, for not much over MSRP. Texted the dealer and to my surprise, they not only confirmed they still had it, but they were selling at the advertised price. Immediately gave them a deposit over the phone, booked a plane ticket for Saturday morning and got online with our bank to secure financing.
You can see the results in the attached photos. We couldn't be happier. Area 51 was always our second color (current order is Race Red), but really love it. Interior is what we wanted. Came with the roof rails, that we wanted. Came with the door bags. Had the aux switches which I was neutral about, but who knows. The only thing I "gave up" from the '23 is not having the restore temp display knobs, but I don't really miss them now that I have put some miles on. And of course, we have SAS, which was not on our original order and I didn't dare change, probably because it was not super important. Well, now that I have it, not sure if I would go back to the original OBX wheels (which I do like, but...SAS!).
Going to keep our current order in place, mostly to see what will happen and possibly get the satisfaction of Ford (maybe) building it, but unlikely we will trade this blue beauty. I tried to stay pumped, and now I am. Keep the faith.
