At least you got the full $500. I've had bonuses added onto my paycheck and it just gets taxed (CA), so you only end up with a fraction of the bonus.

Till the employer adds the value of the card to a future pay period, taxes it at bonus rate then deducts the value of the card back out, big employers do this.

exactly. If it’s over $250 I get taxed. I’m in NH so I have no state tax so that’s a plus
