Hello i recent upgraded all my speakers including the sub and my cameras stopped working(backup camera screen black with no lines - camera button below the screen doesn't respond). A few days later they started working and then stopped again. I took apart the rear trim again and looked at the cables and everything looks good back there - no crazy bends.

Out of frustration I've been moving wires slightly and then turning the vehicle on to see if that changed anything with no luck but one time I started hitting the camera button repeatedly after turning on the vehicle and the camera screen flashed with picture and then went away for the camera button to stop working and reverse to not put out an image. Video attached.

2025 Badlands - I don't want to go to the dealer because they wanted the vehicle to sit on the lot for 2 weeks while they figured out how they would get paid for a dash piece that was not installed properly and I told them to fuck off and fixed it in about 5 minutes.

There is a harness back by the subwoofer that goes to the tailgate - normally you wouldn't need to disconnect it to open the back end up, but maybe it got loose or crimped or something. Worth checking out. It has the camera wiring, among other things, in it.

It's near where the PATS antenna / cargo light / power point harnesses all are, and goes right into the tailgate near the hinge.

Yea that's the one I've been playing with to see if anything is loose but it looks good.

That harness splits into two or three behind the left-hand inner vent on the tailgate (by the latch, the plastic odd shaped piece where it angles back out). That's where the harness you've been playing with splits to the tailgate lock, the camera, and the third brake light. I'd check there too just because it's easy to get at...

And try popping the negative terminal from the battery for a few minutes to reset the IPMA module and see if it picks the camera back up.

I can also say, it's not-totally-impossible for that pigtail to bend the wrong way at the tailgate hinge and get caught up in the tailgate when it closes - which would cause all sorts of mayhem - but it wouldn't be entirely obvious since it's covered in that fabric wire sleeve.

Ok, I also installed a compressor in the tail gate so I'm thinking that's probably it. Not sure why I didn't even consider that. Taking it apart now

I took that apart and all the plugs and cables are good there. I double checked the new wiring for the compressor and it doesn't tap into that wiring harness.

Alrighty I found the problem. The thicker black cable looks like it got caught under my drill when I drilled a mounting hole for the amp the rear frame. It did not go all the way through. Just shredded the outer set of wiring and the inner core of the wire looks fine. Anyone know how I can go about fixing this?

It's a shielded video cable... It's definitely possible to fix, but takes some soldering or some good splices. Given how close it is to the connector, probably need to repin that as well. There is a tool that lets you pop the pin out without destroying it.

I'd say right now, ask the part gods here for the P/N of that harness/cable bundle and maybe you'll get lucky and that's less than the pin tools you'd need to repair. Certainly would be less hassle.

Thank you for you help it is much appreciated. It would have taken me longer to found it without your replies.

I found the harness after that plug pretty quick but now I'm going through the file someone dropped with every wiring diagram to see if I can get luck with the part number.

I've been staring at horrible pictures from Ford part sites for 4 hours - does this look like it?

I don’t think that’s the right cable, it looks way too long and is called a USB cable in the illustration.

It’s hard to tell for sure from the pictures but it looks like Connector 404 which goes between the 14A005 and 14B562 harnesses. I’m not sure which side of the connector the damaged cable is on, but hopefully the one going towards the camera. The other side of the connector goes all the way to the right side kick panel.

It is the one right before the connector that goes into the tail gate unfortunately.

If it’s the half of the connector that’s going towards the swig gate, you’re good, if it’s the half going towards the front of car, that’s going to be tough.

@BadlandsA51 @Brian_B Thank you guys for the input! So I went ahead and cut that center part open and found (what I think)is a few strands ofthe outer grounding wire had made way into the center copper core. I isolated the center core and sealed it and the camera works fine now. I will be soldering the outer strands this weekend to just feel extra good about it then seal everything off with heatstrink and wrap it.
