What is it?

You'll notice that like our iOS app, the Android app is virtually identical to the mobile version of the site; and that's basically what it is. It's our mobile site, but with the added functionality of the menu bar shortcut tools and most importantly - push notifications, so you'll now be able to receive alerts on your phone! We decided against a clean-sheet app design because of the many forum/site functions that would be lost with that approach. This way, the app appears and behaves in the same familiar (and full-fledged) way that you're already used to.


Push notification alerts

The biggest benefit of the app is push alerts to your phone. You can set your app push alert event settings in your account's preferences menu (under the "Receive a notification when someone…" section).

To enable pop-up alerts from the app on your Android phone, be sure these settings are enabled in the app's App info menu:

How to report technical issues?

If you encounter any technical issues -- you can reply to this thread or use the site's contact us link to report the issue. Please report technical issues only (the app simply shows the mobile version of the site, so the styling, layout, ads, etc. will remain as-is).

Seems like it's no different than opening it in a web browser - For example, I already get alerts form Chrome for those same notifications on my Android phone. So it seems like the app wouldn't provide any other benefits when compared to using it in your normal browser, right? Unless other web browsers don't allow push notifications like Chrome does on Android and desktop?
