If you want to frighten yourself google a smog choked engine from the mid 70s. There were dozens of hoses running everywhere for no apparent reason.
This is of course before there were computers to manage boost, mixture, ignition advance, valve lift, valve timing. It was a nightmare.
Ha...
So here's a funny thing. Aircraft are TERRIBLE platforms for electrification or hybrid power.
1) they need to be light.
2) the efficiency benefits of electric or PHEV are gained in the stop and go of daily life. Aircraft run 90-100% power for the first few minutes, then back to ~75% power...
I guess you have what the marketers call an "active lifestyle". Ha.
I had a friend whose obsession was building, rebuilding, and flying airplanes. He was also a triathlete with a pretty expensive bike. His daily driver was a Toyota Sienna AWD minivan with the middle and rear seats removed...
I know a guy who is a tech in a Chevy dealership. With over 10 years experience on the road Chevy has a lot of good data about how their Volt PHEV is being used.
The data shows that most are driven all electric between 90 and 95% of their accumulated miles.
They are getting cars in with 100k...
Though I will be getting a 4 door, 2.7 A/T as a daily driver in Cactus Grey.
If I was getting a 2 door as as a toy. It would probably be an orange 2.3 with a stick. There is something whimsical and ridiculous about that body/color combination that makes me smile.
Funny that I've stirred up so much crap.
Its just ridiculous to me that this couple, with legitimate credentials, stoops to sticking her in a bikini every chance they get.
I found their channel months ago when I was researching a bed cover or a cap. The link I got was to their review...
You aren't a very careful reader huh? My first sentence was asking for jeep owners first hand experience as a baseline.
The Bronco isn't significantly different from other fords, particularly the F150. Its common that certain brands rather than certain models tend to last. Further, the...
I can't stand that channel.
Lets put the chick in a bikini so everyone will watch the video.
But wait. Lets make the boyfriend look like just a regular chubby old schmo. So all the normal not terribly good looking guys will watch because they will fantasize that they too can get a smoke show...
That is GORGEOUS.
When I was younger I worked at a Saab dealer. Saab had a similar gorgeous forest green. It was a fantastic color.
That green with a tan leather (or MGV for that matter) interior, WoW.
Ford's hybrid powertrain is the best of all worlds. Except for cost and weight. But seriously, 450+ in hp in a 5000 lb vehicle with fuel economy over 20 mpg. Fantastic.
Nothing goes through the snow as well as a snow tire. Any vehicle with a snow tire will have an unfair advantage against even another vehicle with mud tires.
Fortunately you can now get truck sized snow tires.
The Nokian Hakkapeliitta LT3. Its available in both 285/70-17 and315/70-17 sizes.
I've got a badlands reserved. I've got the Full-Time 4wd option.
I'd like to be able to run it in Full time and have a sport mode. The Badlands doesn't have a sport mode. I'll be interested to see if I can select Baja mode which picks higher shift points and 4Hi. and then set it to 4WD auto...
Some thoughts on dealing with your insurance company if they won't total it.
1) Make sure they put on a new hood.
2) Make sure they use factory glass.
3) There really isn't much you can do about the roof. It has to be fixed.
That looks just horrible. But remember to keep perspective...
Someone above brought up another issue.
Rust.
As someone who has mainly owned European cars of some kind for the last 20 years, rust is just unheard of. Even up her in MA. My still running 19 year old Volvo wagon doesn't have a single spot.
How have Fords and Jeeps been lately?
The rust...
Thank you all for your input.
This is part of the problem. I'm coming out of a boring but rock solid reliable old Volvo. Mine is at 131k and all I've ever done to it is tires, fluids, brakes and hoses. The same is true of my wifes old V70, which we still have as a spare car for trailer...
