I've done it. Friend was a meteorological scientist and had his spotter ID. Went out a couple times during enhanced risk. We ran a Verizon hot spot and had two laptops. One was running radar and the other I think he had for wind vectors. My job was just to drive. My BIL was running the...
I've never had a tire fail off road from between the tread. Or even on the tread at all. I have had sidewall failures. I just took a trip and spent almost 2 weeks at SMORR and Hot Springs Off Road Park in my Jeep with about 1/8" left. Wanted to replace them before, but thought I would go...
Depends on the tire and how you drive. They will work ok on rocks longer than in mud. I don't usually hit the wear bars before I replace. 1/8" is probably at or past the point of replacement for me.
Having been stuck behind a pickup changing P Metric tires on a sketchy narrow mountain-side trail, a CTS-V that decided they needed to make a 400 point turn part way up the trail to Engineer pass, a mini van up Halfmoon gulch, etc., I think we apparently need to limit trails to capable vehicles...
The front diff in the 3rd gen Tacoma was aluminum (along with the m190) which is obviously not ideal. The M210 is cast. Both are significantly weaker than a solid D44 though and would not stand up to dragging or bouncing off a rock. I certainly wouldn't want the diff closer to stock skids...
I am very not sold on diff drops. In the Tacoma world, they were shown over time to cause more damage than they saved when the diff is now more prone to damage as it sits lower. I'd much rather replace a CV than a diff. Not to mention that you lift to increase clearance and allow bigger...
Well I put it in 4A as we've had like 8 inches of rain in a week as we were at a party on Wed and parking way out up a grass hill. It engaged fine but when we went to leave, it was locked into 4wd but the dash reads 2wd. Could tell as soon as I got back onto pavement. Service 4wd message is...
RC is Chinese junk. Spacers suck in general, but they are at least not super likely to fail. But with RC stuff it's likely to immediately rust or have holes that won't line up.
I love banging gears and have an older Bronco in a 4 speed, but I have to agree. Especially on more technical trails, auto is just a lot easier. Super low gearing obviously helps against having to slip the clutch constantly, but auto still leaves less to worry about when you are on tough...
Agree on 5100s. I have ran that series before and did not find them to be soft at all. They are both valved firmer and are digressive. The SAS actually rides pretty well on road, a lot softer than my Jeep.
That wasn't directed towards you. Just that I'm done defending my position. There is a lot of signal to noise on here already. I'm glad OP is ok. It's always good to remember what can happen when things wrong. Probably a reminder that satellite coms could save a life of your in the...
I don't mean to or care to argue on the internet. My point is that I have been doing this at least 2 decades or more longer than some here and have done this quite a bit. I'm also OSHA certified in rigging. People should use the gear they feel is right for their situation because they are...
