I have also noticed movement of the spare carrier when going down washboard roads and also a bounce of the carrier when closing the tailgate. I'm not liking that. I wonder if other manufacturers of similar spare carriers have any movement - Expedition One comes to mind as they have similar...
Yeah, they definitely need to come up with a better mounting solution for this. Such a kludgy exercise to an otherwise fantastic product. I really like the looks and functionality - I just hope the turn buckles hold together.
It's a regular nut, not a jam nut, it just happens to be a little thinner than the supplied nuts (maybe 1/16"). No way to get a longer bolt in there - notice that I had to shim the bolt with a couple of washers (what you have circled is the head of the bolt). Having said that, I hear you -...
No sag on the swing arm. I did have to adjust the heims some more. The swing out does need to compress the rubber top/bottom or there's too much wobble when closing.
I think I finally have it. It's kind of hard to explain, but I'll try...
I went to Ace HW and got a nut that was a little thinner to use on the bottom heim attachment point. I mounted the heim on top of the mounting tab. I had to shim the bolt with a couple of washers as it was too long and...
I spent 5-6 hours dicking around with the spare carrier install today. The OP is correct - the heim/turn buckle attachment points do not line up close enough to work. There is not enough misalignment in the rod ends to compensate. I think there is a design flaw - whether something changed in...
Everyone should base purchase decisions on planned use. Understand that if hardcore wheeling is the planned use, be prepared that "upgrades" will be perpetual as things wear/break, or just don't perform adequately.
I bought Eibach coilovers as a stop gap before my Bronco was delivered because...
Since this thread was resurrected I'll add my $.02...
Just one man's experience... In all my years of wheeling, I have never used my spare, but I have dragged it off steep drop offs which could be destructive on a 6G. I've only had to patch one tire in that time. That is after 25 years of...
Excellent - sounds like they are working to resolve the issues. There are a few of us that are early customers of the tire carrier. I'll be another data point on Monday and will also update this thread with results.
Oh, I see what you're describing now - thx. Makes me wonder if they didn't test fit a factory wheel/tire. I have 0 offset wheels, so I don't think I'll have that issue. Bummer that you are having problems. I know that Turn will make it right. A wheel spacer would fix you up, but that's...
Can you post pics - that will show what you're talking about. I'm not understanding #2 above. I'm out of town, so won't be able to install my tire carrier until next week, but the bumper installed with no issue for me. I haven't unwrapped the tire carrier, so can't comment on brake light...
I run Detroits in my 73. Tough and reliable - just need to learn not to goose it in a turn... Not sure about Currie's response re: available lockers for the 9". 🤷♂️
Not gonna lie - that's a badass looking rig! Nicely done asthetics. And even with all the less than stellar reviews, I'm still saving beer cans to pay for my future portals... 🤑
