Vehicle speed is calculated by ABS and reads off the wheels, so the gear change wont affect the speedo. The AT shift strategy may be a little off, but doubt that will be enough to be a problem. AT has an output speed sensor to determine if there is slippage in the trans, so it may be confused...

Oil draining back out of the phasers while sitting overnight/extended IS 100% the cause of the noise. The "priming crank" trick is a known workaround, and also a good way to diagnose the problem. The phasers are designed to hold oil while shut off, and not leak down, so you aren't fixing...

I think there was a roll of teflon tape in one of my boxes, but I prefer the dope. Those plugs are supposed to be NPT, but NPT will usually leak oil unless reefed upon excessively. The vents are the same thread, and I doped them too...you cant tighten them "tight tight" cause they gotta be...
