Finally received back today. Been at Ford since July 9. Replaced Left Head, Followers, Cam, Cam phasers, on top of both cats before that.
But "It was normal" they told me. Hmmmmm...
I just got mine back today. Been in the shop since July 9. Sounded like a diesel (see my thread Diesel Raptor under Warranty for video). Started with "That's normal there is a MMS and not a TSB on it." and after arguing for someone else to look at it they wound up replacing left side head...
UPDATE: Dealership called and said Ford agreed to tear it apart and order parts for the top end. I am grateful but I wonder what parts your ordering when its "normal"? They obviously knew the whole time. Just glad they are looking deeper instead of trying to give it back to me.
Interesting. So it sounded like mine all the time or just when you started it? Or Vice Versa? I know the 2.7 and 3.0 are similar from what they are telling me at the dealership. Have they told you the fix yet?
I am hearing great things about that 4 banger in the Toyota Tacoma.
I may be the minority but I think dismissing the 4 bangers today is like dismissing the 3.5 in the F150 Raptor when it first came out. IMO that was a ballsy but great move by Ford.
That's what I thought at first too but when I brought it in they said they double checked the install and everything was fine. The service rep (who I like) says it definitely sounds top end and I think the video shows that as well. Seems so co-incidental BUT like was said earlier, it makes...
I already have a couple of Jeeps but I have been seriously looking at the LandCruiser or GX to maybe change things up. I have an LJ for serious rock crawling and camping so it would be nice to have another IFS for long trips. That's what I loved about the Bronco...best of both worlds and jeeps...
Funny thing is...They gave me the "Platinum Extended Warranty" when the brakes went completely out at 5000 miles on the Odometer!!
OK, Maybe not so funny after all. More sad actually.
Thanks for responding!
OBD2 shows nothing stored. I checked it with a reader. No CEL either.
Why would the CATS melt in the first place? And that happened prior to the noise. The whole thing is nuts.
LOVE IT! It's still at the dealership because they said they didn't want me driving it on my 2000 trip. I said, " Great let's trade it for that other Raptor then.". Well, we should probably fix it first before we do that! Can't trade it, Can't fix it, and Can't drive it 2000 miles. Hmmmmm...
I forgot to mention on the call with customer support he said its nothing to worry about because I have less than 36K miles on it and if something goes wrong, they will cover it.
I forgot he said that but he did! LOL.
Yeah, if I have to, I might. I think before that, I would go buy something else. If it's too much to ask Ford to diagnose and fix then I may just be joining the JL forum here shortly.
Thanks for the reply.
They do. Not common but there are some with issues.
The cam phasers typically only make noise at start is what they are telling me. He said they only work for like the first 2 or 3 seconds and that's it. Not that I believe anything anymore but that's what they told me.
If this helps anyone give me some ideas...it's louder after it warms up. On start up it doesn't sound that bad. My only guess is that once the oil heats up and thins out that's when the gremlins start. If I start it and drive it like 5 miles, its loud when I get there.
They changed the oil too while it was in. I have no idea. I also have no idea how the tech says it's normal and @Ford Motor Company says the customer care line is not for customers!
