I have the hard top too. Are you saying the hard top front and mid panels need to be taken off to pop that side panels? That part doesn't sound too bad, I'm more worried about fishing it through the passenger side cargo panel honestly.
watch the video that @evilletruck posted above, they went around the passenger side behind the airbags and then down the C pillar into the cargo area (then tailgate door). And theirs was a 4-dr so it should be plenty enough for a 2-dr. I think the 4-dr total including the engine compartment is...
@evilletruck
I saw this video, and yep probably do it a similar way, although I might put the camera on top of the taillight.
What did you use the feed the cable through on the last bit of paneling, without needing to take all of it off?
I just called Wolfbox directly, and apparently if you order direct from them, a hardwire kit is included, but elsewhere, like Amazon as 'stache guy did, it isn't included. So that explains some difference, so I just ordered now straight from them (probably have to to use the code anyway)...
Hmm, maybe we're confusing ourselves; it looks like it comes already with a 10ft hardwire kit based on the "what's included" part down the page. I guess the additional option is just for different ways of connecting, like through the OBD-II port? Looks like what comes with it might be enough, if...
wire is usually better; you get a nice constant signal that’s harder to disrupt plus wireless usually means battery, and the hassle recharging it brings.
Definitely means more $$.
but yes, wire is also a pita to install
Naviks unit does have an ACC line on the unit itself and that is enough to power one camera.
I had the front and both sides, so I did the tap in the engine fuse box instead,, and wired all three to a 5A fuse. The cameras I used only drew 1A each, so this works, with 2A headroom.
actually no I haven’t. Probably didn’t need to get that, the $450 version could be enough. But if I have a device with that I could hook up a RCA adapter with, you could display it on the oem screen.
I saw a video where the Naviks guys hook up a phone to it, sort of like an external monitor.
I am pretty happy with it, I can see the lane , the ground next to the car. A happy compromise between on/off road I’m hoping, although I haven’t hit a trail yet since I put the cameras on!
That's pretty sweet! What's that red trim around the screen? Is that an add-on too? Have a link?
Yeah it was quite a chore to do, but I'm also happy with the results!
All in all wasn't that bad, there's a great YT video showing how to take it off; used painter's tape to label which bolts came off of what. It wasn't even the hardest part, which was wiring.
No you turn it on and off. And no each camera is individually displayed.
There are people that have upgraded their system with the actual 360 camera parts. That’s more labor intensive and expensive than this option though. This fits my needs!
