Ranger comparisons don't really apply. I had one an added the rear hitch an it was beefy. The rear suspension is leaf springs with helper springs when things get heavy. They had a low tow rating when using the bumper and over 3500 lbs required a trailer brake which wasn't part of the tow package...

Another thing to think about is if something does go wrong your insurance may deny a claim since you exceeded the limit of your vehicle. If you had to try it a dolly would be a lot lighter than a drive on trailer, maybe close to the 3500 pounds depending on if you reduced the weight of the car...
