I ended up not taking my Badlands order, because I had gotten something else. The dealer was able to sell it immediately, so you might want to see if you can get on a waiting list somewhere to give yourself a better chance.

Warranty would be fine overall. At most they wouldn't cover the modified brakes of course, but the rest should be fine. No insurance issues.

Come to the Defender dark side... just avoid getting one in pangea green, because there are already enough around Northern Virginia. ;) So far no mechanical issues with mine. Still love seeing the Broncos on the road, but they're still few and far between.
