Have you taken it to the dealer since discovering the cracks? That might get them to replace if you're still under warranty. Edit: I just noticed you said replacement is not a solution, but at least you could sell the replacement haha

I like the peace of mind from buying the extended warranty at the time of purchase. But iI made it through the factory warranty without any big problems (and no extended warranty up front), I'd be happy with those odds and keep my money. First model year or not :)
