5k is a perfectly reasonable oil change interval. The last oil change I did on my K20C2 Civic was at 7k miles per the maintenance minder, and a UOA showed that the oil had sheared out of grade.

Both the 2.3L MPC and the 2.7L have port + direct injection now, right? IMO the catch can should be redundant because the port injectors will wash anything off the valves with quality gas.

Mobil 1 ESP 0W-30 has probably the strongest base stocks of any mass-market 30 weight and an excellent HTHS, I'd say it's the best choice outside of the boutiques. Valvoline Restore & Protect is the best option if you want to stay on an API oil for warranty purposes.

The Kirkland oils put up pretty excellent UOA numbers on BITOG.

Will likely never happen, but I'd be all over a Coyote option...
