My BD 10 speed 2.7 is at 8K already but still quirky shifting while slowing to a stop. Also get the lurching that is described above. I also get a clunk at the rear end every now and then and if just an idiosyncracy of the 10 speed, thats fine but if its causing damage i would be worried.

I liked the idea of using a 2x4 at the bottom in front AND back, and connecting the straps to those, vs connecting to the top itself. this way its more like the way the top sits on the vehicle when installed.

The spacers you see at the crash bar mount is just PVC pipe cut to fit just inside the crashbars and are painted black. The self tappers are stainless. It does not interfere with factory crash bars or the side steps I subsequently mounted
Ha! I did something similar with $20 flaps from autozone I attached to the crashbars with the factory bolts using aluminum angle bar and stainless self tappers. Works great at one eighth the price of other solutions.
