I'd like to see a tall cross bar lock onto them and tie back into the main roof rack for an extended roof rack.
Then I can haul long boards or an extension ladder.

I would agree, but I'm wondering if the insert look is just the inner support structure when the door skins are removed. If so, it would have the look but...
