There has to be something else to this. If you had metal shavings or slight discoloration would be plausible from failed synchros. Black would be caused by something totally different.

Replacing the actual synchros would be my last resort and I would not trust any dealer to do it. I can bet you that you'll end up replacing that transmission after that. I would focus on the lubrication. That was my first thought when I realized the issue and saw how many people are experience...
