I was told some of our brothers and sisters off roaders tore it up in places making it "more fun" but it just screwed the residents who have to use it to get back and forth.

My grab handles are used more for passengers to grab on to while off road vs getting in and out, (thus the comfort question)
My family is in New Iberia and I lived in Nawlins for a long time. Nothing compares to Louisiana summer. My Dad often said he'd rather be back in Vietnam! Lol
In California you could only buy gas every other day based upon your license plate. I remember sitting in line with my mom in her blue VW bug.
That's when locking gas caps became a thing...

Back when I first got into off-roading in my 1972 then 75 then 78 Bronco, only posers left mud caked on the truck for weeks at a time.
I guess times have changed, if you wash and clean your rig, now you are a "mall crawler"
I ran through some construction run off and ran through the local handwash in my country town and much to my absolute HORROR they put tire shine on all 5 plus the bumpers and step.
I almost puked.
Spent the next hour scrubbing my clean Bronco.
Poor kid thought he was doing me a solid..
