Wish I'd saved it, but sometime last year I recall something here about some reason to go for 5.13 instead of 5.38. The 5.38 was different in some way other than just being a different ratio. It wasn't anything to do with RPMs, boost, or gas mileage either. Does anybody else remember this or...
I've found, though, that with some creakiness due to age my long-established way of camping is becoming physically harder. I plan to be sleeping in the back of my moar door which I expect will be easier.
The one time the camper shell became a little more of an adventure was the time that it...
Thanks! Places I have in mind include Steens Mtn., the Alvord Desert, the Hart Mtn. National Wildlife Refuge, and Warner Valley for starters. Maybe also the rim above Summer Lake.
My Bronco should have been here by some time in April, but with the manual transmission build delays it may not be...
Well put.
When I first ran into the term overlanding I though, hey, that's what I've been doing all these decades (minus the RTT, fridge, and stuff hanging off the vehicle). For me it's always been a 4x4 extended-cab pickup with a camper shell on the back and a foam pad on the bed. Gear has...
To me, it doesn't make sense to offer the most advanced high-speed offroad suspension (other than Raptor) with carpet and general luxury standard. By all means offer the luxury as an option, but don't make me pay for it (and deal with getting dust out of the cushy interior) just to get the...
Thanks for the info, and also for the leak report - that's something I forgot to ask about.
I spent decades dealing with dust coming in through the tailgates (and rear hatches of camper shells) on my pickup trucks. With some finagling I could keep the dust down to a fairly modest amount in...
I'm curious how well the hatches keep out dust on really dusty trails. Some dust is always going to get in unless it's wet outside, but it can be a matter of a little bit vs. a thick coat on your gear depending on how well the hatches seal.
Any field reports?
The flip side of that is the numerous people who think you can just cut a sizable tree any old way you like. The result is large-diameter branches or the main trunk cut off with big stub ends.
This results not only in rot risk, but also means that the abundant regrowth that happens...
My first car was a manual with no tach and it was easy as you said. My second vehicle was a 4x4 pickup with a manual and a tach. Guess what? When the going gets rough off-road and it gets really noisy, you may not be able to hear the engine or at least not well enough. I ended up having to...
That's the one - thanks so much!
Given that the Badlands non-Sas suspension rides just 0.43" lower than the Sas, it looks to me like putting on even just an inch of lift puts it well above the CV limit at full droop, though not to the point of binding. I'd think this would be hard on the CV...
December 30 order, January 28 email from Ford. The email gave the order # but not the VIN or build date. This is a 7-speed which probably will delay the build date.
I can't seem to find the graph right now (was sure I'd saved it!), though it's been posted here various times. IIRC, with the Badlands the CV joints have little room to safely handle more droop than under stock conditions. It seems to me, looking at that graph in the past, that adding 2" of...
Thanks, Snacktime. I appreciate the summary and I'm sure many others will too.
I'm a little bit confused about differential drops. This isn't the first time I've seen mention of doing one if you have more than a certain amount of lift. My question is, is that the same for all trims, or...
