It was a:
1974-75 Motobecane 50VL
2-speed variator trans.
I was told that the variator trans was a variable trans, it had a cone shaped belt drive that expanded as you sped up. Even through it was marketed as a two speed it didn't shift, it just increased the diameter of the drive and that...
Any adjustments that happen when you turn a dial or toggle a switch, the audio sound is too slow to react too.
You had me until CVT, it worked great on my moped in the 1970s, not so much on any car I want to enjoy driving.
While I would love all the changes mentioned above, some more than others such as a better dash display, it really won't matter because Ford...
Discontinued the base model, the real base model, not a BB.
AND
Raised prices by $16K for a Bronco similar to mine, but with a few extra niceties.
So...
I don't have PPF, but I had waiting for my Bronco Slider/steps and mudflaps, both I wanted installed before I went wheeling, and I did get those on by the first weekend and went out wheeling. The rear flaps were broken off in Moab just 2 1/2 months later, a newbie spotter, who also gave me a...
Two months ago a group of us were in Anza Borrego for the weekend. Before that Johnson's Valley and the San Bernadino Mountains (Big Bear), there are so many great wheeling places in SoCal, I want to do them all. Now add the Valley of the Moon.
Looking to do the Mohave Road, Afton Canyon &...
You're right about sturdier than most think, I've seen guys standing on their top, I thought I wouldn't do that, but I've seen it done.
But in actuality, now that I think about it, I'd stand on a Bronco's hardtop top, standing over the roll bar before I'd stand on a metal roof of a SUV; the...
Many are writing about speeders causing accidents and speed kills and you're right!
Going faster than everyone else, or constantly changing lanes to pass people, just to end up behind me again when they make the wrong lane choice... I love that happens to them! Is dangerous and they make stupid...
The policy I wrote about has been the CHP's policy for decades, since I was a kid and before that, it's nothing new.
I do agree that tinted windows are bad.
Going with the flow of traffic is safest.
"Do you know what they call a CHP officer in traffic?"
"A pace car. Because they will cruise at 8-10 over the posted speed and not pull anyone over who is not: Changing lanes to pass others or passing them. A pace car, because when they exit the hwy...
Germany's fatal car accident rate is among the lowest in Europe and is more than three times as low as the rate in the United States
A Statistical fact.
One word:
Autobahn.
Americans drivers training is almost nonexistence compared to Europe's.
Is the Autobahn safer than US highways?
SCHMITZ: According to road accident statistics from last year, 34 people per million Germans died in car accidents, but only 5% of those accidents occurred on...
I agree on short drives you don't save much time and on short drives I'm going for better fuel economy. On a 12 hour drive, doing 80-85 MPH saves 2 hours, and those couple of hours turns to 4 hours with Sunday traffic coming home from Las Vegas. If there's an accident and there always is add...
I lived in the mountains and I had a Tacoma with the same engine/tran, it was great in the mountains, but the Bronco is much quicker. The Toyota's can go 85 MPH on hwy and only loses 2 MPG, but the Bronco drops twice as much or more. It also has 300HP compared to 190HP so there's that.
Oh and...
Your math is good, but your assumption of the slowest going only 65, yes some do... or your experience where you live is way different from some of our states. Where I live 85% or more are going 75-85 mph in a 65 MPH zone.
A lot of the people going 65 are nervous drivers who think "everyone's...
Fuel economy, I live in SoCal and came from a Tacoma and drove it in the fast lane all the time, lost maybe one MPG, the Bronco's MPG drops quickly the faster you go, it's a brick. Above 72ish it starts to drop fast. I'm always deciding on if I want to go 80 and get 14.6 MPG or so or go slower...
I just installed a few days ago and I have the same problem, thanks for the post, I was going to ask my Service Advisor, but forgot. When I remembered & checked last night it was still connected, but I know it'll come apart sooner or later, especially when wheeling.
Thanks for the info on...
I've lived in the Colorado and California mountains and never have dealt with temps that low, I always try to go as soon as possible, slowly warming up the whole drive line. BUT, it's the visibility through the fogged up windshield that caused me to have to wait to drive more than anything...
