I used heat and pry tool. I did not know the clips were there until I had broken one off. You could remove the inside plastic panel and see if you can see them from behind, but I believe there is bracing in the way.
Have you looked inside the tailgate? There is hardly any accessible flat panels of tailgate to stick it to. There is a ton of internal braces running in every direction. Honestly it does not rattle anywhere except right at the door handle so I may try to put some in that area (which also...
Shoot, sorry I didn't see your question until this morning. Yeah, the tabs were heat staked (melted) over from behind. I had to cut/grind/sand that off until I was able to push them out from the back with a small screw driver.
You can probably put it back together broken and it won't be...
Should not be a problem either way. Thousands of cars with aftermarket audio systems out there using both turn on techniques. I just didn't want it all turning on if the ignition wasn't on, personal preference.
IMO the plastic of the rear side panel would not be thick enough to hold the weight or movement of a decent sized sub. Maybe if you could reinforce it a bit an 8" would be okay? There is also a pretty decent sized gap at the top of the panel where the top mounts so it wouldn't be sealed real...
I used all of the other audio posts as research before I started this. So I wanted to continue to help build on that information and photos for you guys going forward.
Yes and when its down the bottom of the seat cushion appears to be on the floor. Also the underside of the front seats (manual MGV) is littered with wiring and bars. I originally wanted to put the amp under there, but the space seemed too tight.
Yes, occasionally it does get the turn on thump. The LOC I used did have sensing, however when you do anything with the bronco like open the door it wakes up which creates a draw on the 12v system and then turns on the LOC. That's why I switched it to direct turn on by the ignition.
Nothing that I can hear. I considered putting some dynamat in the area behind the speaker, but I did not have any on hand and the sheet metal in there felt pretty solid. And its actually a good sized little chamber that seems to be all steel and sealed.
Perhaps your speaker cone or surround is...
The Link 4 has the ability to auto turn on and then has an output to feed turn on signal to the amps. I ended up changing the jumper inside the link 4 so that it uses a standard turn on to prevent it from powering up every time a door was opened or closed. When the Bronco would "wake up" it...
Agreed, I'm only into this for $1,150 USD and it is total overkill for most people. I should try to get a SPL reading just to see where it is.
A smaller (or off brand) amp powering a set of coax 6.5s and a 10" sub would probably be plenty for most. I did go with larger size and higher quality...
If you connect a speaker to the lines running to the LOC does it play? I wonder if it is a resistance thing? These damn new vehicles have a lot going on with the electrical system.
I spent an hour on the phone with the Wave tech technical support guy. Their customer support was awesome! I...
I was able to get the amp used from my friend and the sub I found lightly used on FB marketplace. Plus that same friend works at the audio shop so I got some pretty solid discounts on everything else. I am into this for $1,150 and a few days of work. If you were to buy everything new it would...
Surprisingly not bad. I think all the internal bracing and weight of the tire help. It does rattle a bit by the handle. I may try to put some dampening in that area.
I also looked at doing one of those, but mounting it to the seat back or side panel. I just wasn't sure if it would provide as much bass as I wanted. I also looked at some larger powered boxes by Rockford Fosgate, but they were deeper (so they would stick out further) and heavier than this JL...
It has been a little over a week since I got it going. The inside of the bronco tailgate has so much bracing welded in there. It actually got in the way of my t slot nuts I built so I had to cut them down. I originally planned to line the inside of the tailgate with dynamat, but there is...
Yes, we don't plan on ever getting it wet on purpose. We kept the top off all summer, but it stays in the garage and doesn't get driven if there is a chance of rain. So unless we get caught out in a storm it should stay dry, hopefully.
Yeah, this is my first JL sub and it does hit pretty good for such a small box.
The amp is 4 5/16 wide. So I would estimate that there is about 6" of depth ( I know I measured it before I built the board for the amp, I want to say it was 5.875 or something?) in the outer fender area. If you...
I wanted to build a down firing box and put it behind the seat, but my friend who works at the truck/audio shop suggested it, he said they put all the jeep boxes on the tailgate and that the sound would be good. I feel like the down firing box would probably sound better with the top off. He...
