You're not wrong. I thought about it, but I ultimately passed because I knew my kids/dog would ultimately trash the leather, and I was also worried about production delays with the lux package. I typically always upgrade my stereos in all my cars (except for my old Lancer back in the day which...
Opeth - my man! One of my fave bands. The Alpine S-s40s are a good choice up front, as are the Kicker KS series. JL is still a solid go-to as well. One thing regarding punch: if you do end up swapping the kick panel speakers, you'll gain clarity but lose most if not all the bass. So you'll...
It will block the vent. The only one I'm aware of that doesn't block the vent is the little Pioneer one. I have the Kenwood under-seat sub and it fully blocks the vent. I was happy to live with that compromise though.
I ended up buying them, only for the 4" connectors. The kick panel connectors are identical to what you get from Metra/Crutchfield. Crazy amount of money to be sure, but they're built well and installation took seconds.
For future proofing, I'd make sure to add bass blockers to all of your 4"...
Yep - The Kicker Key is powering all six speakers. I thought about possibly bi-amping the fronts only and leaving the rears powered off of the factory head unit, but decided against it. The sub is powered as well.
Did anyone have weird results the first time they ran auto-setup? I had my install done by a shop; I know the guys there do good work, but after they ran the initial setup, it sounded TERRIBLE. Front speakers sounded harsh, no bass, and just not good-sounding. I was in a hurry leaving the...
Finally got everything installed! I have to echo every single other post on the forum in regards to the Kicker Key 200.4 - it's an absolute game-changer of an amp. Transforms the sound/imaging/soundstage; can't say enough good things about it.
Ended up swapping the front speakers at the 11th...
Swapping the kick panel speakers will give you a cleaner overall sound (higher SPL from my experience too), but your bass response will drop significantly. You'll need an amplifier with any aftermarket kick panel speaker.
I would say that the front dash speakers are arguably the most important...
Been lucky so far - but I've taken precautions. I have Dynoflex film on the windshield, and also installed the hood deflector. Plus I have a new-found sense of paranoia when driving behind trucks - I try to avoid at all costs.
I went with Alpine S40s in the dash, JL c2-650s in the door and Infinity Reference in the rear pods. Kicker Key amp and Kenwood underseat sub are getting installed week after next.
Without adding an amp, you will 100% need a sub for low end. It's a weird siutation because if you replace just the dash speakers and leave the door woofers stock, you'll get bass but it's not good bass - and it will hit its limits pretty quickly. If you replace the door woofers, you'll get...
I second this. I added polyfill to all the speaker enclosures and it made a large difference. Tightened up the soundstage and made things sound less hollow. Would highly recommend - cheap upgrade and easy enough to do.
The Kenwood will fit but I have to tamp down the vent. There are a few subs that will fit though. I think someone on here got one of the small Pioneer subs in there without issue.
You'll want 4 ohm speakers. I originally was running the Infinity References in the dash but replaced them with the Alpine S40s - I don't know if it's the factory amplifier, but the Infinity speakers seemed to be a tad dull in the mids/highs. S40s have a nice airiness to the top end which lets...
I know what you mean. We went to BB for the first time last Summer in a Honda Element. Loved it, but we tried Old Ore and had to turn around after about 10 mins. There are some pretty gnarly patches. Not going to turn around this time!
I've been happy with the S-40s in the front. I've got Infinity Reference in the rear pods, but the plan is to install JL C2-650s (just the woofers) in the kick panels, put in the Key 200.4, and then the Kenwood under-seat sub. That should hopefully give me the improvement over stock that I'm...
