Hey Guys and Gals. Put the @JcrOffroad winch plate on and thought I'd pass along the experience. The JCR plate works with both the Modular and Capable bumpers. Very nice fit. The Rough Country was a top contender, certainly less expensive but the differences in quality, fit, and finish are...
Hey, congrats on the install. Glad the tips helped. Amazing how those washers make a difference in how it rolls out. Really glad it helped! Now you can enjoy loading it up, taking it all out, removing dividers, reorganizing. Makes OCD a dream come true!
the Radio allows you to select which speaker you want to listen too. You can turn on either, or both at the same time.
As for antenna, more is always better. Length is your friend IF properly tuned.
16 tends to get a lot of traffic (like the old 19). Groups will often pick a channel and some privacy codes (note, they're not private nor encrypted, but the help your group stay rallied up.
Get an SWR meter (see the page on SWR notes in this thread). If your antenna is tuneable, you'll want...
Great question. I'll post an update. Nothing more or less yet. I also plan to try a longer wire antenna. Ran the pods for about 30m with no appreciable noise. Will let you know!
Not me. I'd rather not destroy my transceiver with high SWRs... If you do the actual math, you'll see that higher SWRs significantly offset the effectiveness of element size. While at the same time posing damage to your transmitter.
Guys, FRS is limited to 2W. Under the old rules it was 500 milliwats. There are no 5W FRS radios unless you modify a HAM or GMRS radio which is a bad idea.
That is correct. GMRS (transmissions) require the license while FRS does not. Radio certifications by the FCC are relative to transmissions in a given frequency band(s).
I think that's consistent with the advice here. Better you should measure it and find out for yourself. Working with the coax and a meter will yield the best results. That said, will it matter for general GMRS use, probably not.
It's possible you're looking at a HAM radio which by default blocks GMRS/FRS transmit (not receive). I would recommend you find a GMRS-only for simplicity. HT in the 5W range or a mobile up to 50W.
HAM radios encourage 'tinkering.' Unlock codes, removing diodes and resistor, new software...
